Lescott's performance last night..

The back four were bad but I thought Lescott was the best out of that four. He won pretty much everything in the air and was made to look a lot worse than he was due to the shocker Bridge had alongside him.

well, i read the ITV teletext ratings

carson 6
richards 6
campbell 6
lescott 5
bridge 5

they gave joleon the joint lowest rating and then said it was his most improved performance for england.

clearly itv had stevie wonder writing up the game.

He was pretty gash. But then again the whole team were. Didn't help that Richards and Bridge were the most inept full backs imaginable.

Once again, how much you stretch to clear a ball, does not mean the more the better, may be they were easy but that's because he track back better than others and his position himself in the best possible position!

But again because of this does not mean I am saying he had a great game, I am just saying it is not as easy as you are saying!

No but at International level, clearing those crosses that Lescott did are basic requirements. So I'm not going to start cheering for someone doing the basics.

What did he actually do wrong? Nothing really got past him, he didnt really give the ball away, he won his headers, he cleared his lines. At the end of the day the fact he got the joint lowest marks from several 'pundits' is pathetic.

on his own he was ok. as you said nothing went past him, never gave it away,it was a 6/10 for him about. but as a defencive unit of four they were really crap 1/10 at best.

he stayed in position (campbell got played through twice) he blocked, he headed and played no one onside for a goal - joint lowest score?

the media can suck my cock.

I didn't see the game so can't comment on Lescott, but Ghost made the most accurate point earlier in the thread - how did James not play, he has been so far and above the best English keeper over the last couple of years that it's not even close. If you ask me, there's the difference between qualifying and not.

I agree that he wasn't the worse, but he can't be removed from blame. If I remember rightly their second goal was straight through the middle.

You can probably go to the Liverpool sites and see them all saying that Lampard was [Poor language removed] and that Gerrard did his job well. But that would be a lie.

You can go to Chelsea sites and they will say the opposite.

Each clubs fans are always going to lean towards their own, its natural. However, when I am watching England I'm not watching Everton players, I'm watching England players. I thought Lescott was poor against Russia and he was average against Croatia.

At the moment, like AJ he isn't ripping up trees to take a regular spot.

Well I just don't think anyone can be singled out as doing their job right. I doubt very much Lescott is coming away from that game thinking, "yeah I was good, I did my job, its not my fault". He will be thinking the opposite.

And so will many others. Now comes the real crunch. In the listings of the world England have been dropped way down so now for the World Cup we are unseeded. For those that do not realise we are beibg treated as also rans and will find it much more difficult to actually qualify for the World Cup. Draw is this weekend.

Add to that the figures that are being added up in terms of lost revenue for the FA, the country etc and then we start getting to the real cost. Lets be upfront, yes MCL was not upto it but many players were also not up to it.
