ballsey, ashley cole is fit now. still appreciate bridge though.

well done to joleon, hopefully he does himself proud and serves as an example to players like victor, vaughan, johnson, and arteta that eventually if you play well enough that the national coach, no matter how myopic, cannot overlook you forever.

isnt it great having numerous internationals in the side.

On ya big fella.

Man, just think of what this guy will be like by the time he's 28/29?

is there a tougher word than Formidable?

Lescott seems to be getting a bit of stick in the Mirror for his display against Russia.Imo,maybe because I`m a bit biased, a wee bit harsh.
Although I agree that at points in the game he got pulled out of position,he wasn`t the only one, The sacred cows of Joe Cole,Ferdinand ( possibly one of the most overrated defender I`ve seen) and the ageing Campbell it didnt bode well from the start.

Well as for the rest its just the same old same old crap.

Players coming on in the second half of friendlies and doing absolutely [Poor language removed] all to stake their claim for a starting place.

Defoe - Yet again failed to do anything to convince me he is International quality. 5 years ago I would have said yes, this guy is mustard. I'm afraid he's shockingly average and that is why Jol never played him and Ramos is doing the same. So why on earth is he playing for England?

Smith - What? Why? What position? Plays deep in midfield for Newcastle, does McClaren even look at this at all?

Young - Really disappointed me. Lacked composure, lacked basic crossing ability and the less said about the shot the better.

Bentley - Very petulent, gave the ball away too often, did he do better than Beckham? Well Beckham wasn't majestic, but he's still valuable, especially when you see who's coming up behind him.

Barry - Why wasn't he on from the start? He anchors the midfield perfectly.

Brown - Why? Why move Richards into a less attacking position, and bring on Brown who can't attack?

I give up I really do. Basically when all our so called stars retire, not much coming through is there?

From Skysports:

Joleon Lescott was assured enough at the heart of England's defence to suggest he will not let anyone down against Croatia and his stout work ensured young goalkeeper Scott Carson was not provided with too stiff a test on his debut.

mark bright put the knife in, then went back on his word when saying lescott along with young and someone else were highlights.

crouch is so [Poor language removed], CAL, lets see you explain this one away.
