Everton defender Joleon Lescott has gone public with his concerns that playing in the left-back role for David Moyes men is hampering his international prospects.
The 26-year old was a key figure in Everton's impressive campaign last term, forcing his way into the England senior side in the process as he established himself as an accomplished defender in the Premier League.
The Merseysider's indifferent start to the season this time round has, however, seen Moyes move the towering defender to the flank, and the switch has had an immediate impact with The Toffees going into this weekend's clash with West Ham unbeaten in three games.
Despite the upturn in Everton's fortunes, Lescott has reiterated his desire to operate in the centre of the side's defence in order to affirm his place in Fabio Capello's plans.
Frustrating

"It's a bit frustrating at the minute because I'm getting judged as a left-back. I'd love to play a part in the Germany game," Lescott told the Daily Star.
"But it's going to be harder to get into the squad because I've been playing left-back, and I'm viewed as a centre-back for England.
However, while Lescott fears his own versatility could see him miss out on the Three Lions' squad for the friendly clash with Germany on 19 November, he is willing to fill in where required as Everton look to replicate last seasons achievement.
Progress

"The team is more important than my individual progress," he continued.
"I'm happy to do a job for the team and the manager.
"It's just frustrating because I know - and the manager knows - I'm a centre-back.
"But I've played left-back a few times before, so for me to start complaining now is not the way I want to go about business.
"I signed a new contract last season so there's no way that I'm looking to get away."

First opinions? He should shut his mouth. The way he has been playing this season, he's lucky to be getting a game. The comments will no doubt shame Leighton Baines....

Time to give Baines a decent run in the team and tell Lescott to fight for his place at centre back.

Not really, I don't think he's said anything bad there. He is a centre back and he naturally going to want to play there. He has said he's willing to play at fullback for the team though, that's all that matters to me.

wtf! he`s third choice leftback and the same in the middle.Ferdinand and Terry are not going to be dislodged end of, he should get his head out of his arse

Do you not think?

Would rather he didn't come out saying we are jeopardising his England chances while also embarrassing Leighton Baines.

As jacobite said, he isn't going to get a game ahead of Terry or Ferdinand full stop. Blaming Everton isn't the way to go.

He's not complaining...then he goes and complains about it. How does that work? He should keep it shut and concentrate on his form...like we give a [Poor language removed] about his Ingerlund ambitions over Everton's fortunes.

What? Firstly - most players will learn to adapt to what ever position they are played in. They certainly dont question the manager about it.

Secondly he has played at Left Back for the past 2 years and has done brilliantly there, not only defending wise, but he has grabbed some goals (not always from corners!) and and gotten some assists.

Thirdly - He isnt as good as yobo and certainly not as good as Jagielka in the centre. And he hasnt played well in either the Jagielka - Lescott partnership or the Yobo - Lescott partnership. Jagielka - Yobo have been working for the past year and abit - so why change it.

If he doesnt like it he can shut up. And get a change of clothes whilst he is at it.

What bothers me in the piece is the part were he brought his contract up but says he doesnt want to get away. Why even bring that into it. Shut your gob Lescott your paid wear the shirt and do a job. Nothing else. He should be pleased he's in the Prem, if we didnt take a chance with him he might still be at Wolves with no England prospects. Cheeky get.

End of the day he hasnt played well enough to be in the team this year nevermind play centre back, been a big fan of him for the last 2 years but its time to bench him in my honest opinion, what hes just said has confirmed what ive been thinking all season that hes starting to beleive his own press too much and not putting in the effort.

TBH I cannot believe some of the comments here. He came as a CB from Wolves and did well alongside Yobo and you were all saying how good a CB partnership we had. Jags came and plays midfield in which he was basically rubbish and what where the comments. Something like get rid, waste of money, what we get him for but he was purchased as a midfielder.

Does some games at CB and does well at the expense of Lescott. Lescott was shoved to LB to fit in Jags, because we come back to Moyes who does not like to drop players who have served him well even if he has to play them out of position. I have said many time on here Lescott is not a LB and never will be. But Moyes insists on playing him out of position, why? He has Baines and Valente he could call on, and Baines needs a good run to sort him out just like Jags had to.

So you all jump on Lescott because of his England ambitions, is that not a bit unfair. You were not kicking him when he was scoring goals!!!

So what is the answer, sell him to Keane is that what you want? or give him a chance again at CB and rotate the three of them. But also consider if we have injuries what about cover or our coloured players all buggar of to the African Nations Cup again.
