A statement of intent form big Joeleen for next season, Baines will be delighted to hear this.

"I had never played left-back before I came here, I have played for England there and obviously for Everton there," Lescott told Sky Sports News.

"I would prefer to play centre-half to be honest, I made my debut for England at centre-half and hopefully I can continue there for Everton.

"I have spoke to him [Moyes] a few times but this season it has been more about the team so hopefully next season we can sort that out - I want to play centre-half, he knows that - he sees me as a centre-half but it is more important for me to play at left-back for the team so I am more than willing to do that."

Lescott was speaking after being named Everton Player of the Year, completing a double after he scooped the Players' award earlier this month.

Everyone know's he's plays the best at centre back. But with Baines having his niggling injuries and Phil Jagielka being an absolute revalation at centre back, the left back position had to be filled and he proved his worth.

I can see it being a different story next year with Baines fully fit he'll slip in at left back. Moyes just has the headache of who to drop, Yobo or Jags.

Its also great having a defender who can own two positions and be one of the best in the country at both of them

I dont agree centre half is his best position. JL is superb at left back and i think thats his best position personally.
As for the headache of who to drop, behave yourself, its Jag who will be dropped every time

I dont agree with that. The reason why Baines aint been brought in was down to the fact Jags was amazing this season at CB. If he wasnt Lescott would've teamed up with Yobo and Baines would've went left back or Nuno Valente (when fit). Jags keeps his eye on the game 100% while Yobo loses concentration a lot. But the flip side is Yobo is better in the air and has more experience.

Lescott is great at left back, there's no question about it, but I think he feels more comfortable at CB. Baines can just pip him at LB because he's better on the ball techinically and margionally quicker and getting up and down the wings ala Evra, Cashley Cole etc.

I also agree that centre back is by far best to where lescott is more suitable, but as for who to drop, I'd say Yobo is a superior defender to jagielka in every way, the problem with yobo of course is his concentration, it always has been. I believe Yobo is technically a better player than lescott too, but again, you can have all the technical ability in the world but if you forget to use it then its pointless.

I can see Yobo and Lescott being the centres next season and jagielka reverting to the role moyes initially brought him in for and that is as a utility man.

I agree with Sim/Kenada here. Lescott is a centre half, end of story in my eyes,..What you have seen with him as left back is the public display of his maturity within his game developing for all to see. His knowledge is as a centre half, it is a bonus he now truly understands the left back slot. We will see this next season, his spacial awareness lift, his potential to command a team from the centre, his ability to drop to the left slot when Baines moves forward. I believe all centre halves should play the wings a lot more to develop every aspect of the defensive roles. How else do you know how to compensate for gaps made during open play. How much fun will it be to watch their right midfielder/forward covering our left back only for them be confused and watch our centre half run past them with the ball. these things I look forward to enjoying.

We are watching the emergence of a future Everton Skipper here. Vice captain next season, mark my words.

I know all people are entitled to their opinion, and this is mine.

Call me crazy but barring injury, I see us starting the year in back the way we ended it with a combo of Neville/Hibbert, Jags, Yobo, & Lescott.

Baines is gonna have to wait a bit longer.

Does he? What like Arsenal on sun when he forgot there was an a attacker marching into the box? Similar problem in the home leg against the same team.
Most of his saving challenges are normally a result of him messing it up in the 1st instance.
As for Baines being better than Lescott, thats just ridiculous, he is neither quicker or more technically gifted

Why not try Jags at RB some during the preseason to see how he'd cope. I personally would love to see a Jags-Yobo-Lescott-Baines back 4.

It's still a nice problem to have, with players really having to earn their place in the squad, rather than just being in because there's no competition.

Much better than just knowing who the team will be week in, week out, because there's just no one else.

If we're in Europe again next year, we'll need all the cover we can get.

He is a centre half, because it's clear he's [Poor language removed] at left back.

I'd move him to centre half next season. He's just as good a centre half as he is left back which gives us two options but watching his interviews he always mentions himself as a centre half and wants to play there. Moyes has also mentioned that Lescott sees his future there.

He's not [Poor language removed] at left back at all. Infact he's been one of the best left backs in the Premiership over the past two years. His problem is at times he lacks the agility and quality on the ball. We haven't seen him bombing down the left for while now which tells me the amount of games is getting to him in such a demanding position for a man of his size.

Baines is different. He's not as direct as Lescott but has has more quality on the ball aswell as a better end product.

Personally I'd like to see Baines at left back, a new right back brought in and Yobo and Lescott in the middle. Thats the way to go for me. I'd be a pacy back four if we got a pacy right back in aswell.
