He's only good for 20 minutes at the end of a game at any level, dropping down to the Championship wouldn't help much in that respect and I was told by a reasonably reliable Latics source that he couldn't agree a wage structure at Wigan.

I think it's pride more than the actual amount of money mate. Taking a big pay cut would be an admission to himself and everyone else that his best days are way behind him.
