This is what I don't understand , people complained when Rooney left , called Barkley a rat Etc because they treated the club badly in order to fleece the club and line their won pockets. Baines has been the opposite and is now being critisized for not being ambitious? Maybehes just loyal ? Maybe he realises he gets paid millions to do a job that he loves, maybe he's happy, maybe he realises he's lucky? Shearer, Le tissier, totti ? They not ambitious just because they wanted to play for their clubs?
You think Coleman is not ambitious? He's basically exactly the same situation wise as baines .

We won virtually every major battle. In the end we decided it just wasn't worth the bother as we had more important things to be getting on with.

Depends on your ambition doesn't it? If your ambition is to win things with your boyhood club for example ?
The post I replied to said that "the only reason he is here is because of lack of ambition" I don't agree that's the only possible reason

As for Leighton, would love to have him stick around, though increasingly for just for cover, and to dispel wisdom on attitude and comportment to the youths. If he prefers the money though, he's earned it - though it's hard to think of a place more contrary in spirit to what makes Baines admirable than Los Angeles.
Out of sentiment, I am happy we never sold him before now - after all, absent sentiment, what is even the point of modern football? - but if we were being ruthless and pragmatic about it, it would have been better to have sold him to Moyes's United, though obviously after extorting them for three times more the initial asking price.
The thing is, Martinez was in charge then - do you think he'd have bought a replacement as good as Baines is even now? Bear in mind that Martinez wanted Sam Byram before West Ham took that bullet for us.

Leighton Baines has been a great player for us and was 50% of one of the best partnerships i have been privileged to see at Everton. If he is content to remain as a back up i would be happy, but he should not be starting for us any more. He has lost much of his pace and most of his set piece skills. He no longer has the legs to run up and down the pitch because he no longer has a supreme engine like Pienaar to cover for him when our opponents hit us on the break. It is a sad but true fact that he is on his way down and increasing slippery slope!
