Legal prostitution policy idea of Lib Dems, why its a bad idea.

It shouldn't be okay to pay for sex. I think we go down a grim road if we start giving up on our ability to eradicate the negative externalities and saying "[Poor language removed] it" because it all makes economical sense. What else will we give up on? Sure, it's impossible to stop it all completely, but we should try. All other points are valid, like, that's just my two cents, even if it's a tad idealistic. I'm not usually idealistic at all, but I couldn't be doing with legal prostitution. I'm not an expert on the subject by any means but can't it lead to addiction? What a sad way to blow all your money, never mind your wad.

It's hardly the only way to have sex, is it.

That's your subjective opinion.

Not all prostitutes are grubby street whores lining up their next £20 crack fix. Same as not all punters are socially inept, potential rapists with personality disorders.

There's all sorts of reasons why men use sex workers & just as many reasons why women choose to offer their services.

Oldest profession in the world, and surely any regulations to make it safer could only breed positive results. Making it more difficult would surely mean more potentially unstable individuals turn to rape, which is counter productive to what they'd be trying to achieve.

Not convinced about that. I mean a lot of rapes are less about sex and more about violence and sadism but I assume we're both talking more about date rape and that sort of thing. I feel like a lot of that comes from the idea that sex is a right and it's perfectly okay to just take it if you like the look of a girl. And I don't think in that case it would stop if prositutes were more readily available.

It's for society and for individuals to decide what is right and what isn't not governments. 50 years having a child out of wedlock was not OK, now it is almost expected.

If, as a society, we want less of the desirable elements then we need to take it upon ourselves to instill the right values and upbringing that steers people away from these things. That is something that starts at home, not in Whitehall. Just lobbying government to get drugs and prostitution banned is a completely unworkable cop out.

That's one way to kill the trade!

I dunno. I'd record a few voiced sentences "like oh, yes" and "aren't you a big boy". Stick a voice recorder in my skull. Keep the body on ice when it's not being used, everything would be fine.

People donate their corpses after death, like organ doners do, you want a shag you pay at the brothel, they bring out a corpse you get your end away in that, everyone's happy.

Don't see a problem in it at all.

I think you give these people in the date rape scenario too much credit with their thought processes. I think its purely a primitive urge they can't suppress and need to quench, which suggests to me that if they could do so more readily (safer more accessible prostitution) then these dangerous individuals would be reduced.

its the human trafficking side of things that need sorting out you walk round some areas of the city and see the amount of eastern european hookers around its bonkers.

That you can have sex without buying it?

I'm pretty sure I can prove that actually. Just give me ten minutes with your dad.

Don't aim crass comments like that at me, I consider that to be in awful taste, thank you.

Your comment was putting a moral slant on the issue, not merely stating a fact.

before womens lib a wife/partner would see to her fella as a kind of 'duty' like cooking his tea, it's all Jermaine Greers fault ffs.

I see they all soon put the flames out on their bras, put the pups back in their kennels and locked the cat up once the furore had died down.
