Player Valuation: £5m
Premier league kicks off next Friday - new boys Shels will be looking to get off to a good start away to Cork, champions Dundalk host Derry and there's a Dublin derby between Bohs and challengers Rovers.

The first division will begin the following week, with the farcical situation of Limerick and Shamrock Rovers B Team still not resolved. There are two fixture lists currently drawn up, a 10 team division without Limerick and an 11 team league with them included.

Despite Rovers 2nd string being admitted to the league, many clubs are threatening to boycott any matches against them. There are no signals that this issue will be resolved before the opening weekend.

Throw in the situation with the FAI financial mess and John Delaneys war crimes, things are not looking good for Irish football at present.

Feel free to cast some predictions. I'm going for another Dundalk title, they have recruited well and I believe they have at least one more charge left. Rovers will push them hard, but have a tendency to self destruct.

Really looking forward to the season. Couldn't have had a more emotionally challenging opening match.

For non-irish Blues, it would be like Everton opening the season at Anfield!!

Winning that Cup Final was psychologically huge as a 32 year gap was filled.

Dundalk and Rovers are by far the most professional clubs and have the strongest squads.

Saturday will still be a dog fight and Bozos would love to set us back at the very first fence of the season.

Hopefully the toxicity in the FAI has gone too, and let's bring it on.

Ah Tipp!! FFS you're gone down in my estimation!!

Still, happy to meet you for those overdue pints in Kilkenny. Will be off it as usual for Lent, but keep in touch!
Oh we're definitely opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to loi football, a proud 'bozo' as you put it, and not much time for Rovers at all. But sure you can't beat rivalries, the game was built on it.

It was an unbelievable performance from bohs to come third last season, and it's probably the best possible outcome this year, very hard to see anyone getting near Dundalk and Rovers, still fancy Dundalk to win it.

Interesting to see how Shels go on their return, good to see them back in the top flight.

No idea what to expect as I head to the cross on Friday night in terms of the season but i know we will be better then last year as we couldn't be worse. $hels was always the game we loved in the mid 00s so to have them first up in the cross with a new young city side and a bit of a buzz around again is fantastic. Pats will be at the races this year and I am confident that we are only being written off by those who know nothing about the players we have brought in. At least no matter what we won't be forced to watch a bunch of cowards disgrace the shirt again this year. It's ironic that Shep's first game for Shels is at the cross, the man didn't try one yard last season but will probably run a marathon now on Friday night

If there's one player I can't stand in the league it's that Karl Sheppard.

Attendance figures were down a bit at the cross last year, surely be an improvement this season.
