Just been speaking to a steward in the alehouse and he said there was nowhere near 17000 there as the club include in the official gate fans who entered the auto cup scheme in their season ticket and most didn't turn up,there was more like 11,000 there,which if true was our lowest ever crowd for a European game at Goodison, to go with our heaviest home defeats in Europe. Happy times indeed.....

No, I figured that out myself.

All these clubs do it these days....the official gate is based on tickets sold, not bums on seats.

I suspect it is to keep the Taxman from the door rather than owt else.

In the old days the opposite was the case

You were squeezed in the Paddock or the Enclosure, the ground was packed to the rafters and they would announce 38,000 or sommat when a blind man could see there was nearer 49,000.

They could get away with it then.
