I think Blade runner 2049 is a real grower, I liked it at first but on a second visit thought it was a stunning movie
I completely agree.
I also thought that the decision to make the second film was incredibly brave for everyone involved, from the writers, the production team, the director and also very much the studio and actors.
The first film is a masterpiece and a will rightly always be regarded as such. If the second film had tanked or had been poor quality, it potentially could`ve finished a lot of careers.
The decision to take the second film away from the beautiful, vivid backdrop of the original, with the haunting Vangelis soundtrack complementing every single scene perfectly and move it to a harsh, almost monchrome backdrop, with an industrial style soundtrack, was inspired and worked perfectly on every level.
They`re both exceptional films, it`s just to me, when you walked out of the first one, having seen it for the first time, you instantly knew you`d just seen a piece of cinema history, where as with the second, it took a couple of watches to appreciate what a truly exceptional film it is, made by a director who was / still is at the top of his game.
