I have tried this thread before but couldn’t find it in the ether of current threads.

Anyone who speaks a second language? Anyone with a partner from another country who wants to learn their language?
Just want to learn a second tongue?

Please congregate here and help each other. Learning a second language is the easiest thing you can do to make yourself smarter.

Decent French, a bit of Spanish and Italian. I can be polite in a handful of others. Going to have a bash at Ukrainian this year I hope.

I started learning Italian on Duolingo during the first lockdown. Just in case I ever bumped into Don Carlo one day. ? ? Then he left us and I lost interest. Would love to speak another language. I might start again with the Italian, it is a lovely language.

I married a girl from Cheshire, we communicate enough to tolerate each other. Basically a case or either removing 'the' altogether or repositioning it in a stupid place mid sentence.
This year I'm hoping to learn sign language. Again.

The lady I live with is from the Czech and her English is much better than some locals.
She is doing her English GCSE in 2022 at Bolton college and I have no doubts she will pass.

i speak a splattering of various languages not what would be called fluently though.
i have noticed when visiting various countries the languages overlap and i forget where iam.
i was recently in istanbul and ordered a coffee in italian,
maybe its old age!

A decent amount of French and German although better at reading it than speaking it; when on holiday, it takes a few hours or days to get back into the swing of it.

My missus is from the Netherlands and I’m trying to learn Dutch via the Babel app.

She’s very direct about my chances of becoming fluent and thinks that Everton will win the CL before I’m chatting with the locals in Groningen!
