Landlords

So me and the lady have this amazing flat in a posh part of Southampton (that's right it does exist). Right next to the Marina. But this morning we get a call saying the landlord is selling it and we have 2 months to find somewhere else. Why do they have to be such a-holes about it?!

I'm badly gutted about this as I love my place. It's truly ace. Now I know the landlord is within his rights to do this but it doesn't stop me being fuming.

We've never missed a rent payment, never been any trouble or anything like that so can't understand why he's doing it now.

Humph. What a rubbish way to start the week.

Humph again.

He might be moving abroad, he might be cashing in to afford an operation for a family member. IT isn't personal it seems, go to the bank and get a mortgage or see if your parents will float you a few tens of thousands as a deposit.

It might be worth having a discussion about stay in there. The new owners might be happy to keep you on as tenants, I know with my last house I bought I kept the tenants in and just renewed the lease agreement and adjusted the rent to the proper market value.

It ended up being better for the tenant even though they were paying more, as it lead to the plumbing getting fixed, fire and security systems upgraded from non existant to top notch.

Either way might be worth talking to the owner about it. This way he/she will also keep getting rents whilst the house is on the market.

Cheers for the advice peeps.

I'll have a chat with the lady tonight and see what she thinks.

And I've just had a bollocking at work.

2 months? That seems like extremely thin notice to me.

I agree with some other posters who say see what the buying situation is for yourselves. Paying rent is the worst way to use money.

Totally agree, renting is seen as dead money and I think you work for a bank so you'll probably get a good mortgage deal as well
