Talk about inspiring stuff.

Whatever its faults sometimes, the US has an impossible task as the leader of the free world.

Protecting the path of democracy across the world was never going to be easy.

I'm not religious but if there is a God up there - may he/she/it bless America.

You could have just said you found the speech moving and you cried into your cranberry juice and left it at that.

The rest is just a nonsense, and a laughable simplistic nonsense at that. Something I don't think any American I know would be able to state without knowing they were talking through their armpits and ignoring decades of evidence to the contrary.

Having lost two prior TVs to violent play by children, I really can't endorse the useless destruction of any TV simply because Sarah Palin is talking. I find that turning down the volume knob is quite therapeutic. Her mouth is moving and she has nothing to say, which I find quite fitting.

@dholliday I think you'd be hard pushed to name much of an Allied force in WW2 at the point the US waded in.

I know my history just fine matey. At the time the Nazis were the greater evil. The Russians were on their knees. If it wasnt for the US the entire west wouldn't have stood a chance. Luckily my forefathers were safely residing in neutral Ireland.

They were on their knee's yes, as were Britain but tactical errors by the Germans and bizarrely bad weather ( rain) soon changed that. Bad enough that it provided enough time to re-group and dust down.... pretty much after this re-grouping, the germans were in a headlock.

Enter the USA.

Like chico said, equipment and all that came with that helped tremendously. USA just provided the boxing gloves. Dont be ignorant of the real facts mate.

The family's speech was indeed moving but it was more than that. There was a steely commitment to the American ideal that I felt was noteworthy. The speech, and my simplistic post, acknowledged there have been various mistakes along the way. That doesn't take away from the essence of what I was trying to get at - which is that the world is a better place for having the US in the driving seat.

It was a simplistic alcohol fuelled post as has been pointed out but the fact is simple - without the US you'd be speaking German or Russian (and probably a combination of both down the years).

Britain's role was incredibly brave but America came in and saved the day. A Hollywood finish if you will.
