Lack of fight and playing for the shirt

only two players have a good season i would say barry and lukaku and lukaku done nothing the last month or so poor season jimmy mc is trying but not playing well too many hiding, we got 4th place with much worse players but they knew what it ment to wear the shirt
Ross had quite a good first half to the season. Has struggled since though

I said after the arsenal game that it was the most frightening performance i have seen from an Everton team, the teams which were actually fighting relegation had more fight and desire about them.

Last night was just as bad, they had a shot every 2.5 minutes... we had 3 all game. with none on target...

There is a complete lack of fire or fight or desire, and the players share a lot of that blame, but i don't exactly see martinez lighting a fire up their arses to get them going. Uncle Bobby conforms to the "gentleman club" ideology.

I REALLY want a snide of a manager the players are scared of to put a foot wrong.
I said last year when we were in the dregs being pulled into a relegation area. There were maybe 2 players on the team that would have had the bottle for a relegation battle and we sold one of them this year in Naismith. There is no way these players would have the fight in them to make sure they evade going down should we be down in the mire next season.

It may be that many of these lads are just not that talented. Other than Lukaku and Stones, how many players have been sought for transfer within the Premier League.....never mind outside of it. Could you see any of them starting for PSG ? Atletico ? Real ? Bayern ? Even as bench players ? I realize that this game is about money. And the biggest teams spend to get the best players. But when I look at West Ham, who is most probably in a similar monetary situation as Everton, I see them spending 13 mil for a payet, not a niasse. This game has become moneyball for many teams. Goodison doesn't hold 70,000. Chang isn't Chevy or Emirates Air. So the teams at the bottom have to do a better job of finding underappreciated talent and developing it. Cf Leicester City. Everton hasn't done it and until someone steps up to make the tough calls, this team will continue to circle downward. And boy, do I miss Naissy.

How many players from Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs would get in those teams

They got to the 38 point mark knew they couldn't go down and stopped working for the manager

No surprise that these awful games have come after picking up the required amount to be safe

Every time you work hard for a terrible manager in any line of work it makes them look better and disguises how truly awful they are at their job.
We took a hiding but wtf would winning have done for Everton long term. Let's bottom out, sack this turd and to quote the great Yazz, the only way is up, baby.

Arsenal, yes. Sanchez. Utd...Just watch Marcus develop. Chelsea. No. Liverpool. Good question. Spurs ? Harry might fit at Bayern, but he's not going anywhere. Man City...yes, DeBrune. And perhaps the example pointed a bit high. How about starting at mid to lower tier teams in La Liga, Bundeshliga, France or Italian leagues ? I think that's a good talent reference. If you play for mid to lower level teams in leagues that regularly contend for Champions League honors, their better players on lesser squads should be excellent value, acquirable and would do well in EPL. Ausberg, a lower level Bunde team, gave Liverpool a real beating earlier in the season if my poor memory recalls. Unfortunately, talent, coaching and team management is as complex as the game itself, which is why a) money rules because it buys you more mistakes and b) I think that the little teams can compete by playing moneyball.

Everton have a collective fear of Liverpool. Torino have it with Juventus and before Simeone Atletico had it with Real Madrid. We are literally paralysed with fear when we play them. It is the most embarrassing and annoying part of supporting Everton.

It seems to be just the sway it is.

This seems spot on. Our players do things in derbies, particularly at Anfield, that they wouldn't do in any other game. Take Baines last night. Don't think he's had a worse game for us.

This was a concern with Martinez from day one, wasn't it? His positive, kind and gentleman-like attitude was a welcome change, but the question was whether a different side of Martinez would emerge should work ethic and results decline. I can't say for sure, but I don't think one has.

The players certainly deserve much of the blame. They are professionals getting paid big money to do something they love. There are no excuses for not putting in their best effort.

But when players don't give it their all, its up the the manager or those above to get the player to perform, or else have a replacement ready to take his spot. Unfortunately, with the thin squad at Everton, there's little fear of a player losing his place. And the manager seems unable to get the players to perform at the level they need to.

So, yes, the players deserve some blame, but it has to start with the manager. Bring in a manager who knows how to get results out of the players and their lack of effort will fix itself.

Very true we have given up, just hope we are still up for the cup semi final on Saturday!

Sorry, but the buck always stops with the manager in my book.

If players dont seem to be playing for him, it is his fault, not theirs.

Professional footballers are managed from the age of 12 or 13 these days, they know little else. If they are bewildered by the tactics, shape, selection, whatever, it will manifest itself on the pitch.

If they turn up on Saturday, (which I am 50/50 if they will), and turn over United, even then, he needs booting.
