L.A. Noire

I hated the ending.

Yeah, I'm going to post my full opinion on it below in white text so beware

SPOILERS BELOW

I hated the whole affair thing. It made you dislike Cole for no reason -- before then his family hadn't even been shown in the game, so why introduce them just to make you dislike Cole? When he died I felt nothing for him. But what I did like was the way throughout the game, through the newspapers and the war flashbacks, you're introduced to all these characters that tie together, and in the end that all comes together. I was impressed. The actual ending itself was so-so -- I really liked Kelso, but like I said they ruined Cole.

Just traded this in and got £35 for it --- the same it cost me. And because I bought it with store trade in credit, I've not spent a penny! Plus the bonus "xp" (gamestation's nectar points) I was arguably paid to play LA Noire!

I tell you what, for free, this was a boss game. :P

result !!!! :)

ive been a bit busy over the past few days to play it , but i shall try and complete it this weekend (ive not looked at the spoiler above yet) .
i think im close to the end....... i had just joined arson and investigated 2 houses being burnt down.

i have to say so far i agree with a lot of whats been said in this thread.
the game is ace becouse it is different. but there are a few things to improve on (which if they get right should mean we should relish a sequal).
the gun fights are a good addition but dont quit work. they seem clunky and perhaps to easy/quick/pointless.
the city itself , well its so large but just not very interesting becouse it passes you buy and on a whole is samey and meaningless.(gta for eg , i got more a sense of 'difference' in the places ) . i cant quit put my finger on it but its just lacks something - perhaps its a lack of interaction while exploring the streets ?

anywho , i will give my final judgment when i complete it .
which then begs 2 questions .... whould i play it over again ? ummm , even though i liked it , im not sure i would.
what game do i play next after l.a.n has been done and dusted ?

It's not perfect, is it? But the core of the game is fresh and for story fans like myself, really engaging. It's crying out for a sequel.

I feel like the action sequences have just been shoe-horned in because there's a Rockstar label on the box and/or because the devs were too afraid of it being all thinking, no action. Which leaves it as the modern equivalent of a point and click game, but with mediocre action sequences filling the gaps.

As for it being open world but not very explorable, I don't really get that either. Mafia 2 was the same, and whilst I loved Mafia 2 and I loved this, if you're going to make a linear game then why on earth do you need an open world?

finished it at last. spoiler alert below in white text.

i agree with you rufus. the affair and other things led me to really not give a damn about coles death , in fact i didnt like him at all. i liked the ending though , the bad guys winning basically , but i dont think the flash back soldier story element worked very well. the arsonists for eg was a very important role but the flash backs dont really get you to know him at all , which leads to him being a bit pointless and a 'who?' moment when he steps out of the shadows. overall i think the game shows a lot of promise for a follow on but fails to hit the mark to make la noir a 'must have' game. the pointless expanse of the city with little to nothing to do in it , the clunky gunfights , and the occasional hit and miss interogations all count against it imo.the genre , the story , the crimes and gameplay for most of the game are all very good.but its not a game i would play much again after the 1st play through (in hindsight , i actually think red dead redemption is a much better game) , but i would defo buy the add on cases and the next addition in the series. final score : 7/10 very good , potential for the series , but flawed.

Has anyone bought/played the dlc? I know people that pre-ordered it got them free, lucky gits.

Can't decide whether to trade it in or get the extra cases.

I can't actually think of anything I reeeeeaaally want at the moment either...

By the way, the ending was...(spoily spoilers?) VERY MEH! No idea why that affair was tacked on, wasn't believable and seemed rather silly. I actually would have preferred to play the entire game as Kelso - Cole's perma-constipated face got on my nerves most of the time, quite glad he got got.

I got the Naked City free initially. Thoroughly enjoyed that one.

I bought the other pre-order one as it came out the day before I was going to trade it in. That was a bit meh.

There's been another two released, which I've not played.

Completely agree with your summary. They just ruined Cole -- who was admittedly not the greatest character in the first place -- by randomly introducing the affair. I much preferred Kelso.

Completed this today, thoroughly loved it.

It's not perfect, a lot of it can be improved but the fact that it's a sort of first of it's kind (with this motion capture tech) shows that it can only be improved.

As with most Rockstar titles, newer locations and era's can be used to create a whole new game, so i'm looking forward to the tech being used in other ways!

Still think Red Dead was the best new-gen Rockstar title yet, though.

Loved it at the beginning , then just started getting on my tits towards the end , wouldn complete it again , glad to be finished it , traded it in for mass effect 2 the other day .

Im really struggling to be bothered with it.

I like it but it's just not exciting enough to keep me interested.

Exactly mate I gave it away after 4 days, I don't play games to be 'immersed' i don't have the time, give me a brainless shooter like COD4 or FIFA.
