2018/19 Kurt Zouma

Interesting...

Silva clearly didn't rate him as highly as Keane or Zouma, otherwise he would have picked him. Playing for Colombia is a different kettle of fish to the prem

See some media commentary on the man:

'For a player who on paper looks like an archetypal Premier League centre-back, the Colombian struggled massively to cope with the physical demands of English football – his stark lack of pace proving to be a serious handicap....

Mina continues to be an overwhelmingly popular figure in Colombia and impressed once again with the national team at this year’s Copa America....

In the case of Man United, Mina is one their most expensive dodged bullets in recent years and, if nothing, proves there is some method to the madness of Woodward after all.

It remains to be seen whether Everton will give the Colombian another chance or cut their losses on a player who they forked out almost £30million on just 12 months ago'

lol lol lol

“Publication is blacklisted”

I have formed my own opinion from watching him play football rather than been told my opinion by a hack journalist working for a scum organisation.

Yes! It's dreamteamfc - no idea as to the quality

I do believe it's reasonably reflective of reality however - saw Mina play a few times last season, e.g. vs Man City away, a real test, where he seemed out of his depth - did you think he played well in that game?

But understand not easy to adapt to the prem and it takes time - he certainly deserves more time but nervous about going into this season with him as first choice centre back and no real back up

I suspect Silva feels similar, hence the push for Zouma or another...

I personally don't see Zouma as being better than Mina, similar players doing well in the same areas and making similar errors too. However Zouma has had many years premier league experience and i don't see him getting any better than he is now. We should be looking elsewhere, as i'd imagine Brands already is.
As for Smalling i hope to god that those rumours aren't true.

I have no idea who wrote that article but he obviously didn't watch Mina play for Everton last year going by the section you quoted.

Given that he never managed to get himself match fit, he was actually very impressive in the few games he actually started for us.

I saw enough to form the opinion he could become a star for us and think he'll settle well into the premier league. He's also a character, something you don't see very often these days, and I can see him becoming a cult figure with the fans, something we haven't had since the days of Duncan McKenzie.

What do you actually put into your search engine to come across these jarg articles.?

Ha ha. You think he won't make it in the premier league because he had a poor game against Man City away. I think he only started 6 games mate all season, in which we conceded 6 goals and had 3 clean sheets. 4 of those 6 games were away to City, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea, who just happened to finish in the champions league places.

As I said in my last post, the lad was beset by injuries and never managed to get himself up to speed with match fitness. He was also new to he premier league, a well known graveyard for inexperienced defenders.

Give your head a wobble.

There seems to be an irrational bias here towards Mina? He certainly seems a likable / colourful guy but important to be objective...

Did you think he was very impressive against Man City away?

Why wasn't he picked ahead of Keane / Zouma when fit?

I think certainly when he came in from Barca I'd thought he'd become a first choice. However, also heard from Barca fans that he was inconsistent there, in a weaker league

Hopefully given time he'll stay injury free, get a few games and live up to the potential...

He only played 5 games for them mate, though I remember him getting slated when he played in one of Barca's big losses.

Definitely - but based on that are you saying you'd throw him in as cast iron first choice centre back?

That is the case with many other players in the team - Richarlison, Gomes, Pickford etc - straight on the team sheet

This guy was expected to be one of those, but it's not the case

Anyway, I'll stop banging on about this - but another centre half certainly appears to be required as a priority. Let's revisit in a few weeks...

Is that a good sign?

It doesn't come across as looking good mate, and I can remember him getting slated by the Barca fans in one of the games he did play where they got battered 5 - 1 by Villarreal. He has looked okayish IMO for us when he has played, hopefully we get to see this season what type of player Mina is going to be for us.

Yes - hopefully he comes good. But I wouldn't bet the farm on him...
