If it comes down to deadline day, that's just a huge risk of us ending up with nothing. I'm sure any decent alternative would not wish to wait that long either, and come in very much as Plan B. It would suit Chelsea both to keep him, and to impede us getting a replacement in the process.

Clearly Lampard will want to consider all options but there is no reason not to have a definitive answer from Chelsea well in advance of August 8th.

Month-end is a reasonable enough timeframe for this to happen or not, I hope they are seriously pursuing other options now as a fall-back.
