Looking at the Lampard articles, they all talk about him wanting to develop the younger players and bring them through and he spoke specifically about Mount and Tomori.

For Tomori to have any chance he needs to be 3rd/4th choice, not 5th or 6th. Will he get chances, even in the Carabao cup when the 2 rotation players are Christensen and Zouma (after Rudiger and Luiz) at the moment?

For him to even believe he will get chances he needs to be in a few matchday squads or on the bench and again, are Chelsea going to do that for him if it means leaving Zouma/Christensen at home.

The best solution would be to have 3 quality established CB's and make Tomori the 4th, plus Ampadu who is rated very highly.

I am really starting to believe that we will be signing him.

Either way they needed a coach who would not be demanding lots of players in to make his system work. They'd also need one who the fans would give time too and one who could work with younger players. Lampard fills that void.

As a club they have been moving in the direction of trying to emulate Tottenham/Liverpool increasingly. They have a seriously talented under 25 squad. The final piece of the jigsaw is giving a manager time to build a squad with those players. I can't guarantee they will do it with Lampard, but they'd be wise to give him time. In fairness to Abramovic, while he gives nobody time he will say he gives them all enormous backing, so expects them to deliver, the same won;t be able to be said for Lampard.

If this is the context they are going for, it's hard to say where Zouma, aged 24 (nearly 25) really fits, given he has flopped for Chelsea and been loaned out for the last 2 seasons. It's irrelevant how well he did for Everton under a different system, it hasn't worked for Chelsea. He's not really their future. If they can get 30+ million for him it's a huge incentive to sell.

Much of Zouma's performance was also his partnership with Keane. Take that away and he is quite an ordinary defender.

Long and short of it, much like Gomes I expect Zouma to come. The issue was always going to be whether we wanted to commit to a big fee to get him. To me he has justified that.

Thought it was just 2 windows.

Plus they are hoping that the precedent set with Real Madrid a few years ago will be applied to them, which will mean the ban will be halved. So Chelsea can operate in the January window this season.

Of course we are signing him. People are starting to realise that he’s not going back to Chelsea and walking into the first team, which he was never doing, and that he needs to be playing football for the sake of his own career in his mid-20s.

Just wait until West Ham lodge a £15m bid and this place melts.

Still can't see it.

This whole "Lamps will give youth a chance" is gonna be emperors new clothes. I can't see them selling 1st team players or squad players to throw in kids.

There will be up roar by the chelski faithful when they're 8th and struggling to compete because they're relying on Ampadu etc
