The man was a junkie, with a shotgun sadly it was always going to end messily, the man was a tool,to say otherwise is nonsense he had a daughter that needed to be protected from that harrigan he'd got married too perhaps he should have thought about her but sadly junkies really think only of themselves and well we know the story.
Was he a genius? not sure his body of work was, frankly far too small for me to fall anywhere near that category but he was a very good songwriter and given Nirvana had probably used up there "group" album quota i would have loved to have seen how his solo stuff would have been,i suspect it would have been rather good, good enough to propel him into the genius category but as it is for me at least he remains an enigma that produced 1 good album,bleach,1 very good album, nevermind and 1 brilliant album In utero (by far their best work).
RFUS puts up a fine defence of his actions (i salute you sir) but we all have problems,i have, you have we dont go looking for smack or a shotgun its an utterly selfish way to die suicide its a cowards way out, sometimes you man up to life's problems sadly selfish people prefer to run sometimes to the hills or other places or sometimes to their death as happened in this case.
It is sad what happened and perhaps if the record company had tried to step in and help earlier than they did he could well have been around today but thats crystal ball gazing.
