Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
01 Nash
02 Hibbert (Shkodran Mustafi 76)
31 Coleman
34 Shane Duffy
36 Bidwell
21 Osman (Craig 81)
26 Rodwell (Akpan 8)
29 Forshaw
22 Yakubu
35 Agard
37 Baxter

was the lineup when we last played a predominantly young team against BATE. Of those, Seamus and Rodwell came through and did well in England, with Mustafi obviously doing well away from Everton.

Many have drifted off into the lower leagues though. How do you think the lads that played last night will do? Will we achieve a better conversion rate?

As an interesting point of trivia, both Garbutt and McAleny were on the bench for the BATE game.

Very interesting. That team had three stand out young players so a similar ratio would be most welcome. I'm not sure, but have all of those players gone on to make a career for themselves at some level or other?

I think there was a lot of really good talent in the team last night, and there could easily be some first team call ups in the near future.

Not so interesting fact that I noticed yesterday is that Santi Cazorla was on the bench for Villarreal in THAT game.

Anyway, I can't remember anyone called Craig playing for us.

Forshaw and Bidwell are in the Championship and Baxter is at Sheff Utd. Not sure about the rest.

  • 01 Robles - poor positioning last night, and not just for the goal. Only 24 and without a run of games it's hard to predict his future. You'd expect it would take a serious dip in form for a fit Howard to be dropped, so I don't fancy Robles' chances here long term.
  • 27 Browning - good athlete but lacks a bit of finesse at RB. Seen him once or twice for the U21s at CB and he's been solid enough, although I get the impression his positional sense needs to improve. Would benefit from a loan to a Championship side and it's a shame the Wigan move didn't work out.
  • 30 Alcaraz - looks a prospect.
  • 18 Barry - doubt he'll make it.
  • 29 Garbutt - he looks PL standard. Hopefully he won't go elsewhere.
  • 19 Atsu - felt for him last night. I don't think it's going to happen for him here at all, and probably not in the PL generally.
  • 42 Ledson - thought he grew into the game fairly well and can see why he's been a regular captain at youth level. He's been given some exposure that will benefit him enormously. After seeing him a lot I'm certain he'll make it at the top level - maybe a comparable career to Barry.
  • 08 Oviedo - don't think he's used to playing centrally and it showed at times. Better out wide - I'd say his proper position is clearly an attacking LB. Nice to see him back. Provides good squad depth at an important time.
  • 22 Pienaar - if only he was a little taller, a little stronger and a little quicker. With good movement around him he's still an excellent player, although I don't think he's got much left in the tank.
  • 35 McAleny - felt more for this lad than I did Atsu. He played like he thought it was his last chance, which it might've been. Mobile player with tidy skill who made the wrong decision almost every time last night. He'll be a decent Championship player.
  • 09 Koné - rate him. For his first game in 14 months he was excellent. If he stays fit he'll be an asset this season.
  • (Jones - 90' ) - I've always been impressed when I've seen Jones, originally in midfield and now at RB. I'd say he has a top flight career in him, but I said the same about James Wallace.
  • (Dowell - 11' ) - looks a clever player. Probably needs to find a regular position and work on it if he's going to push on. Almost impossible to say if he'll do well. He'll likely alternate between U18s and U21s for the rest of the season.
  • (Long - 80' ) - has good technique. He's in a similar situation to McAleny at the moment, but probably has another year or two to develop. Don't think he'll make it with us.

Fair assessment really. Garbutt was head and shoulders above the others. I'd honestly start rotating him with Baines,

The only youngsters from last night that really made an impression were Garbutt and Ledson. Those are the only 2 at the minute that I can see going on to have a career in the Prem. Browning wasn't bad but not outstanding.
Sadly I don't think McAleny will make it here and I couldn't judge the rest as they didn't really have much of an opportunity.

Forshaw and Bidwell are both doing well in the Championship and I expect one of them will get promoted. Agard and Baxter are both scoring goals in League 1 and Mustafi is a World Cup winner.

Not bad, just hope more of the ones who played yesterday are doing well at Everton in 5 years time.

don't forget our two brightest 'diamonds', Stones and Barkley, have moved beyond that level now, so really we have four Under-21s in, or pushing, the first team squad, if you include Garbutt and Ledson. That's not a bad ratio. You could possibly add Browning as well.
