In the past, Greece. turks are from central asia and were not really competing in the European cultural stakes until they invaded what was then the Byzantium Empire./

Currently, turks are far more successful. English and Americans are massive turkafiles due to their massive population, massive army and strategic location. All that matters is who the USA backs. In the future, China should be the one that matters. ATM, Turkey is flavour of the month and not just becaiuse it is xmas!!!

Youre on fire lid!!

Who you gonna start on next?

How about the swiss?

Give the greeks a break!

Greeks refered to themselves as Greeks/'Hellenes' even in ancient times because a Greek was someone who spoke Greek, worshipped the Olympian Gods and was allowed to compete in the olympic games. Everyone else was a 'barbaros' or foreigner. So lets not encourage the myth there was never a Greece that the Turks and FYOMians base their existances on. Greece was an idea that covered city states from Sparta to macedonia and even as far as southern Italy, France, modern Turkey and Egypt. Italy is very similar, what is an Italian? It was and is a collection of city states also under one culture, religion and language. Difference is, unlike Greece, Italy doesn't have loonatic former communist neighbours called Fyrom saying italians are African and Julius Caesar was Russian. Italy doesn't have Turkey as a neighbour, flying islamic military bombers illegally over Italian airspace, like the turks do over Greek holiday islands in the Aegean. Italians don't have Albanians/Turks and Fyromians rerwriting history daily, claiming large portions of Italy as theirs and selling it to the world through America! So spare a thought for poor Greece/ They may not be charming people or trustworthy. They may be lunatics on the roads and fanatic football supporters. But they have always been crazy, at least they co-founded the west. Lets go easy on their ancestors currently dealing witht the IMF, as well as Anglo American supported Turkey/Fyrom. There are only 10 million Greeks..they are not such a bad lot/. Give them some retsina and some base and they will dance till the dawn!

Where are you from mate?

I always liked doing business with Greeks, it was long winded but they're good people to be around. I find them on the whole charming and trustworthy too like. Suppose you've seen a different side.

I also point out to my Greek mates that they hate pretty much all of their neighbours and their neighbours hate them. Same as England. Coincidence do you think?

I just think that Agesiliaus mk.II was harder than Alex, and more'Greek', if you will. At least he was Hellenic rather than Hellenistic ffs ;)
I do like the Greeks (in my top 10 nation states),and love Theo Angelopoulos too x

Well, Alexander III, his father Philip II and their grandparents, and all their grandparents were known as the Argead dynasty. This is the family that ruled macedon from 700 BC to 300BC and were from Argos in the Peloponnese. So, really, it is not even apples and oranges, simply apples and apples. Both kings and Royal families were Greek, from southern Greece (Peloponnese) spoke Greek, worshiped the same Gods are were allowed to participate in the Olympic games.

To put this into context, Fyromian Govt funded scientists believe and have published that Greeks are from sub-Saharan Africa, Greece was never a people/culture/ unified race in any way and Alexander the Great was from Fyrom and they are his true descendants. The world laughed at them until the Iraq war broke out. Greece refused to send troops to Iraq despite the British and Americans saying it would be 'a mistake not to.' Fyrom quickly sent 14 military personnel to Iraq and that same month Bush recognized Fyrom as Macedonia. Bizarrely and totally out of tradition Britain followed/ copied America's decision immediately after!

Since then strangely, certain famed Greek heros/kings as well as Ancient Greece itself has been becoming 'less Greek' in the anglo saxon media and more...Slav/Turkic/Albanian.. Greeks were bloody idiots for not sending troops to Iraq...

I am from London.

French don't publish maps for their schools of the UK with London and Brighton labelled as 'Under British occupation since WW2.'

Turkish ministers openly talk about re-turkifying the Balkans. If Greece even digs for oil in the Aegean next to any Greek Islands, the Turks will declare war on Greece! If Greece even pushes it's air borders to 10 miles from an Island/Greek main land, the Turks have written in their constitution, this counts as Casus belli and remind Greece of this daily!! Turks however have their sea borders at 12 miles! Turks violate Greek airspace weekly safe in the knowledge, the UK/America will always back them for a place at EU table no matter what they do! Why should they care? They can wipe out kurdish villages with ease safe in the knowledge the BBC would rather report rumours that Gaddafi's son may be in south America instead.

A football friendly in the 90's was cancelled between Albania and Greece because someone realised the two countries are still technically at war!!

I think England's neighbors can not be compared to Greece's neighbors/. Greece's neighbors are like the Hitlers. England's by comparison are like the old couple from One Foot in the Grave. This is why I always go easy on Greece. They occupy a very beautiful part of the world next to some of the most backward nations on earth. Anyone in Greece with an IQ of over 70 usually migrates to America/Canada/Germany anyway. What is left is a brain drained nation with neighbors from hell. Sad situation.

Do you live in Greece though? You're very well informed and speaking very much like my Greek friends speak. Perhaps you have Greek parentage?

My sympathies always lie with Greece mate, it's my favourite place in the world. Outstanding people, if not a little nuts. But I like that a lot.

Greece's neighbors are like the Hitlers.

I must point out, Turks - in my experience - are almost universally lovely. Warm, friendly people who seem to have no interest at all in bringing down western society. The politics of the region is another thing, of course...

This part of Norf Landon is an interesting place. Lots of Greek Cypriots; lots of Turkish Cypriots; plenty of Turks, too.

The food is great!

The thing is that the Cypriots from both sides tend to get on when you put them in the same room. It's the politics that skews the whole thing. The influences from both Turkey and Greece don't help sometimes either.

I have Catalan/Greek/English and Austrian ancestry. Each Grandparent from a different nation. My grandfather from Greece was from Leonidio near Sparta, so I know my history from around there.

Every time I meet a Turk, they make a huge effort to act as western as possible which is really sweet and miles away from the Christian Pogroms they were famous for in the 1950's. The more you learn about the Turks, the less you like in my experience. However, I would say again, they do a very good impression of westerner on first meeting. live in Turkey for a month and it looks a little different in every single aspect, from culture/religion to views on non-Turks.

Used to spend summers in Greece as a kid, they are very similar to southern Italians when you really get to know them. Moody, greedy, good cooks and bitterness everywhere! Some really beautiful girls there too.

In my experience the Greeks have been much friendlier than the Turks. Two places I have frequented, too. Not to say the Turks are a bad people, because they aren't at all. Its just the Greeks have a sort of plate smashing care free charisma going for them.
