I don't think he's quite acknowledging or establishing blame, just stating that someone had to pay for Heysel, which is quite right.

it wasn't us to blame, there were fans from lots of clubs there and a lot of chelsea headhunters were spotted causing trouble.

so IT WUZ CHELSA?

What's the point of this? Does nothing but stir an already poisoned argument more, the comments are testament to that.

Wow , just reading the comments at the end of the article they really are a diffrent bread

"Although we had to be punished, so did juventus. They had a fan FIRING a starter pistol at our fans. They were causing more trouble than our fans. juve got off scot free compared to our club.
It was both fans to some sort of blame it wasn't one sided as some media put it.

It's over now and it cost us at least one more cup. it could've cost us 2 cups seeing as how we were invincible during that time"

The bit on the end is what pissed me off, never mind 39 people where murdered it cost them 2 cups

One of them says they shouldn't bring it up because it was over twenty years ago - I was desperate to point out that so was their last title but the sh**ty Echo site wouldn't let me register.

Heysel cost Everton a lot more than it did Liverpool. A side at the height of it's power, looking capable of dominating English football, broken apart by the actions of Liverpool fans on that day. Not Chelsea, not Juventus - Liverpool fans, no ifs or buts.

We're called bitter? Damn right, because if the shoe was on the other foot they'd be bitching about it 10x worse.

The comments show the disparity between the tragedy at Hillsborough and the one at Heysel in the eyes of Liverpool fans. Liverpool can do no wrong as far as the cultists from the Kop are concerned.

But yes, 20 years ago, let it go, blah blah blah...

Hats off to the man.

We were at the peak. Probaby that should have been the most successfull period of our history.

I'v noticed that some of you guys blame liverpool fans and not other hooligans who may have taken action on that day.

Let me ask you fellows some things... isn't it true that we share the same DNA with the reds? Aren't they scousers in their majority? I'm sure some of our supporters lost a cousin, a brother or a son in that afternoon. What makes them so different?

Are we seeing a complete different fella here ?

he seems relaxed on telly, you can actually understand the guy and it seems that he doesn't want to get into this 'insult the neighbours' rigmarole.

He was a hell of a player which is why we despised him so much, he broke our hearts on more than the 1 occasion, and I reckon he has looked on and seen everything from a more neutral perspective, I see a fella that is definately trying to wind back the clock in a lot of ways, he said the other day that his endearing memory of the Merseyside Cup Final is getting through all the masses and seeing at the tunnel a fella with his 2 kids, 1 in red, 1 in blue and thinking "that's the way it should be."

Maybe in your gaff lad, with your mixed up family of brought up here but born there lot.....BUT NOT ON MY WATCH*!!

*I would of course take along a red rel(child) but it would be largely to mock and laugh at in victory.

I wonder if he ever had chats with Shankly ? wonder if he was ever told in confidence that all he had said about us was wrong ? 'cos this fella doesn't seem to have any animosity or hatred towards us at all.

We are talking Heysel here Sotnas, not Hillsborough. Not many of us have relatives from Turin.
