Because people still believe the bull of the last manager that these players were impossibly poor and think Moyes is an absolute genius, when the truth is in-between the two.

Thelwell signed a lot of good players in an impossible financial situation, continued to add to the squad regularly despite money issues (remember those years under Kenwright when we couldn't sign anybody?) and has kept us solvent.

Think he’s done a really good job personally and think he has a better signings record than Moyes at West Ham, given the difference in situations, budgets and status.

Yet everyone hates him. Think it's mad myself.

And for the record, Moyes is doing a very good job as manager. But he isn't a miracle worker - he is getting these players to play to their full potential!
Im fully behind the DoF model, when it works, so far it hasnt worked at Everton.

What I mean is the disconnect we saw regarding players the DoF brought in and the players the manager wanted.

Beto and JOB are just 2 examples.

IF nothing else, we finally know the answer to the question "who signed who".

Every single buck will stop at Moyes.

Glad he is going. Sure he has been working in a rough environment with severe restrictions but like the rest of the senior level management during the Moshiri era, they each played their part and all have to take their own personal responsibility for bringing the club to its knees.

Personally i don't even like the Director of Football structure. It can often cause conflicts between Manager, DOF, players and supporters. Hard to get it clicking perfectly. I would like to see TFG go in a different direction tbh and i don't mean just let the Manager do it all. Something new and fresh maybe.

From the outside looking in he has done a very good job in extremely difficult circumstances, I liked the sound of the systems he was trying to put in place the hires he tried to make regards the scouting networks showed he was looking to change the club for the better in the long term.

Ultimately none of us have the information available to really assess the performance as DoF is a long long way from being a scout.

Moving past this a bit (because we all seem to be entrenched in our opinions on the fella), the things that concern me aren't necessarily who replaces Thelwell (owners are within their right to go with someone new and potentially better suited to the structure or new circumstances), but rather two issues:

Firstly, you would hope our planning for the biggest summer in recent memory is already well underway and I question how this change isn't going to disrupt this. The DoF would be heavily involved at this stage, so with Thelwell now being a lame duck in this regard, how can he be effectively contributing to the summer planning? It seems unlikely we will get someone new in shortly, so it seems unlikely Thelwell is going to be contributing productively here.

Secondly, if you cut through the noise a little bit, names like Doherty, Newsom and Weir have Moyes's stamp all over them. My concern is that the model becomes a Sir Alex Ferguson model where we hang everything around Moyes - he has final say on everything and he becomes the defacto DoF as well as manager. This might suit some of our older readers and Brexit voters who hate change and want a return to a 442, but I think reliance on one individual like this is potentially dangerous and, when Moyes leaves, it means we have to rip the structure up and start again. The whole point of the DOF model (when done properly) is to negate this.

If you read some of the stuff Thelwell has been implementing at youth level and consistency of approach, it's actually really impressive and just needs further funding. I'd question if Moyes has the bandwidth to take all of that on.

As much as I appreciate the work Thelwell has done, it isn't his departure that concerns me so much as the potential structure the Friedkins implement. As much as I think Moyes is a great appointment as manager for the short to medium term, if the structure going forward is with him as the almighty, I think it potentially leaves us exposed.
