I could imagine Rob Newman comes in to head recruitment. He worked with Moyes at West Ham I think. Maybe Weir to come in and do all the other sporting director stuff outside of recruitment.

I thought he did a decent job. Never really understood the people who have really strong negative opinions about him.

Never felt like a big enough character in the role and perhaps his quiet/awkward persona hurt him a bit.

Going to be a crucial appointment for the incoming DoF. Get the Chief Operating Officer in soon, then straight onto the new DoF.

Never lived up to his billing under tough conditions. But he isn't some bit part scout, just a very poor DoF.

Fair play to Thelwell, I think he's worked under some of the worst possible conditions, hands tied behind his back, had to deal with two pretty poor managers as well in Lampard and Dyche. He's helped sort the finances and helped us stay in the Prem, so well done to him. It's the right time to move on, but wish him the best wherever he goes next.

Exactly. Also a valid criticism to say that he shouldn't have been signing players that the manager didn't want/couldn't use.
