KEIOC have today responded to Everton's Chief Executive Officer, Keith Wyness' threat of legal action by inviting him and his team to a debate on the controversial proposed relocation of Everton Football Club to Kirkby. A spokesperson for the Keep Everton In Our City campaign has said:

"Let's have an honest debate in front of the fans that way both sides of the argument can be given a fair hearing with no complaints and we can then move forward like adults".

Could be interesting!

How can he take legal action against them? Unless ive missed something, all they have done is campaign against a stadium move to Kirkby?

Living in a democracy, i thought it was quite reasonable to voice your protest about any issue.

It really depends if the robust debate around this issue has turned too personal for him. Don't really know what the speciifc issue is that encouraged him to threaten legal action, but if he want to remain a CEO of Everton, he'll really need to develop a much thicker skin.

Also, with the debate I wouldn't bother if I was him. It'll be a hiding to nothing. The electorate of Kirkby have a vote in May,and its up to them to support the project, or reject it. I am sure it will become a major issue.

I would have thought it was KEIOC members who needed to have thicker skin. I have seen plenty of stuff "implying" various ulterior motives to Wyness. If you are going to make, or allow others to make, allegations like that then be a man and stand behind it and produce your evidence instead of crying like a spoilt child when real life takes you out of your fantasy football self-importance.

We have civil law about libel and slander in the UK. Just because you wrap yourself in the cloak of being "the people" (rather than a minority of a certain section of people) doesn't make you immune from it. And if you were requested to take certain items down, rather than being sued immediately, it seems a fairly measured reaction.

Some people using the internet appear to think that they can write or allege anything they want without any comeback in the real world.

Agreed.

I may not be Wyness's biggest fan but he is doing good for our club. (relating to comments by Bly). I am happy for him to stay. If he has had slanderous comments made about him then he is justified to stand up for himself and request a liable case. If KEIOC can prove their comments then he should go. But somehow that is not going to happen. This is the real world. Not the cotton wool wrapped pretend political game they keep trying to play. These days in business, if you open your mouth then prepare to have it shut.

I lost all respect for KEIOC when they publicised Everton and Man Utd fans fighting as a way to discourage Kirkby residents.

"Do you want this in your town, look at these shameful Evertonians. It will be like this every fortnight unless you act now". Yeah, well, get to [Poor language removed] KEIOC.

Mr Wyness did not like the tone of the Scotland Road article which suggested that Everton were dismissive of the site and others which suggest that they deceived fans, there's a page on the site called 'Were we misled'.

The club solicitors said: "Everton and Mr Wyness complain that the references, when read in the context of the articles as a whole, are defamatory of them in that they allege that Everton and Mr Wyness have dishonestly deceived and shamefully bullied fans with respect to the relocation of Everton’s stadium."

Keioc contacted Bestway for a statement:

Malcom Carter, head of property at Bestway said: "All efforts from me and my engaged professional team to meet with and openly discuss the Bestway 'loop site' and promote it as a potential relocation site for Everton Football Clubs, having gained the technical support of HOK Sport Architecture and WSP Engineers, totally astounded me.

"Realistically, I couldn't have done much more and I was just stone-walled for much of the time by Everton Football Club's Directors and to make things worse most all that was said publicly regarding the Bestway site by Everton Football Club or it's representatives was so inaccurate that so often it genuinely beggared belief and surprised me."

Yup. If I had just had a deal that would give me a good pay out blown out of the water, then I would say something bitchy like that also.

He gave that statement to help prevent a legal case

If it wasn't true, it wouldn't be wise to publish it when the club want to take legal action, would it ? ;)

Danny, afaik the video was never shown and it was a false report by the BBC (well.. the Liverpool Echo's Phil McNulty on the BBC site). There's an article on Toffeeweb where people have said it was never shown and they were there at the time it was said to be shown.

It was. I was there

KEIOC apologised Lou.

The Apology from KEIOC made in June for portraying Evertonians negativity to Kirkby residents as football hooligans - which funnily enough, is no longer on their website. Hmmm....

Unfortunately I made grave error of judgement. During the past few months I have been approached by local residents opposed to the stadium development who viewed their concerns that this kind of development would have a detrimental effect on the local community. Often citing anti social behaviour and football related violence. Personally, I was of the opinion that it would assist local residents make a balanced judgement because to make a considered decision you need to look at the negatives as well as the positives.

It was never my intention to besmirch the good name of Everton Football club or the residents of Kirkby, and apologise unreservedly to anybody who may have taken offence to any comments I may have made yesterday

I deplore all forms of violence and do my utmost to promote Everton Football Club Evertonians, and no matter where I travel whether it be at home or abroad. I will continue to campaign for Everton Football club to be open & transparent and include all match-going Evertonians in the ballot process.

Perhaps now with the benefit of hindsight my approach in the future will be more considered.

I believe in being responsible for my own actions and I am willing to tender my resignation at our next committee meeting.

Yours sincerely

Alfie Hincks

They did use video footage of 'the battle of Everton valley Lou', I seen it.

In the middle of Kirkby town centre, there was a big board with something like 'Your Town, Your Future'

And there were CCTV footage of the Everton Valley game and all the arl women were looking on with dread as if Kirkby was about to be turned into a war zone.

I rememeber the footage saying something like 'Do you want this on your doorstep?'.
