Do you just get to a point and say I can't be bothered with this anymore? I am a software dev and keeping up with tech is just becoming a pain. Do you bother to keep up with tech?

I think within tech there is definitely a flocking to the sexy new thing which is going to change the way we do x, y and z. As you get more experienced, older and more cynical, you tend to pick and choose where you place your energy and time.

And people fall in love with the tech itself, as opposed to analysing what it can (and cannot) do for them and their clients/employers...

I only attended for 2 years and didn't even walk at my graduation. But I have friends who attend every home football game. I guess it's a personal decision.

Have you encountered an Alexa yet? (Yeah ok it's probably last year's thing. Big deal.)
They were using one at a party we were at recently and it wouldn't work for a certain guy because apparently his Cumbrian accent was too strong.
For new tech read public humiliation.

Be arsed. Can't even keep up with what day it is half the time.

Ok, that's easy. Open up a reply to any message and type:

When I were a youngster (and there wasn't much tech) I used to crave to have the best. Hifi was my bag, and I would work to buy the best possible kit. I read the mags which kept telling me that this year's amplifier is much better than the one they told me was the best just a few months ago.
In the end I met an acoustics engineer, who got me into speaker design as a hobby. Since that moment I've seen hifi as a bunch of rubbish, which at a high value to the cusromee but VERY little cost in manufacturing can be made that 'bit better.' Now I make my own stuff.

Basically I've learned to bin the mags, trust my own judgement and stick with what works for me. If something breaks and needs replacing then I'll research what the best replacement is, but I see through all the hyperbole and marketing and choose what suits me and the way I want to work.
It's why I've never gone for apple stuff.
