pay does not directly link to performance in the uk when someone is paid enough to enter the higher tax rate.
thats my companys policy, which is why they focus on extras such as company cars, bupa, gym membership, extra leave instead of big pay prises.

and it works.
the point im making, 60k or 100k, they should perform to the same level, aka their best.

Spot on. Once someone approaches the threshold for top level taxation youve got to either give them the payrise to offset the salary theyre about to lose through tax or find ways to recompense through extras or bonuses which most companies will do rather than the former option.

Think ref's should get paid more than players personally. They have to babysit 22 players aswell as making crucial on the spot calls that could be worth thousands to different 'businesses' (teams).

Imagine Clattenburg or Atkinson getting payed millions of pounds a year

I think I'm off to train to become a ref, shouldn't take long....poke eyes out....listen to SAF shouts for more time....giv penalties for diving, and not when it really is a pen....have I missed anything out? ;)

No chance I'd want to take that much stick.

not sure how it works in the UK, but in the US you only have to pay the higher tax rate on the amount above the cutoff.

so if the cutoff is 100k, and you make 110k, you would pay the lower rate on the first 100k, and the higher rate on the remaining 10k. so i don't get how this works.

Far to much if you ask me!!!!

They're making 60-100k per year and are out there officiating anywhere from 30 million to 300 million worth of assets (players) at a time. I would say they're underpaid for their responsibility.

Clattenburg is doing alright with his 60k.
