Just had a call from the tea lady at Finch Farm, Everton are to give Young South African goalkeeper, Judd "Ice" Berg a week's trial.

Berg, who is a member of the Farouk Abrahams Goalkeeper Academy, had trials with Sunderland, but it came to an abrupt halt when Steve Bruce was sacked.

Judd is a 22 year old, born in Johannesburg but grew up in Spain and Italy. He holds dual South African/UK citizenship, and spent two and a half years studying Philosophy at Cornell University in America before deciding to turn pro as a footballer.

Judd said: "More than anything, what made me decide to leave college was when I was seen by a New York Red Bulls coach who told me, 'listen, I think you've got what it takes to turn professional'."

"Unfortunately, three days after my trial at Sunderland, the coach Steve Bruce was fired, and I could feel the club had their mind on bigger things.

"In the last three weeks Farouk has adjusted my training, I've been doing a lot of endurance work, and a lot of fine tuning. I've been pushing really hard.

"For me, that's the epitome of goalkeeping; good with your feet, very good distribution, very good reflexes, a good shot stopper - and that's what I believe I am. I'm 1.93 metres tall, and so I'm very good in the air."
