Why do so many people on this forum feel the need to continually reference Klopp and secondly Pochettino when discussing mourinho? So the media prefer those two managers. Maybe it’s because mourinho’s rap sheet and track record for being quite rude and aggressive with journos is well established. You have to play the media game if you want the love in. Honestly the defence he gets on here from some people on here is quite embarassing and makes us seem really insecure. It makes the defence OJ got seem credible.
He’s the manager of Man United and he’s doing a poor job. Yes he finished second last season and he won’t the Europa league in probably the worst lineup of the competitions history. He’s always been a cheque book manager and he has continually received backing at United. Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Bailly, Matic and on and on and on- he’s been backed plenty. I agree with some posters that if as a club you get to the stage where you don’t trust your manager and don’t want to back him with money then the time has come to part ways. No point carrying on with an incomplete squad and unhappy dressing room and manager. But the point is when is the last time he made a successful signing or actually improved a player on the training ground? A lot of players seem to have regressed under him. There is no doubt that both Poch and Klopp have done that in recent seasons, Jose hasn’t. It’s no surprise they don’t want to give him £60 million for a twenty nine year old from spurs or £80+ million for a total yard dog. It’s short termism at best- and we all know where that leads.
My post said is start this season hasn’t been good enough , it hasn’t . As regards previously yes he’s won two trophies , I didn’t say three did I I said two , so why quote me and mention three in relation to my post above .
As regards done what’s expected he’s qualified for the champions league in both his seasons something the club hadn’t been doing with regularity since Ferguson left , they finished 7, 4 and 5th . Yes mourinho finished 6th in his first season but we know from watching that he went all in on the Europa and it paid off . It paid off as well in that he won a trophy , well two trophies since he’s been appointed .
Mourinho was appointed , I’d imagine , to win trophies and qualify for the champions league , both of which he’s done . We’re three games in and he’s had a poor start that’s undeniable but the season isn’t over yet , I’m defending the bloke not because he’s united manager but because throughout his career he’s been a trophy machine . That’s what he does , he wins stuff and for me that earns somebody time and a little respect . If he gets the bullet then he’ll do somewhere else and probably win more .
You don’t like him that’s fine , I think he’s had a poor start to the season and I can absolutely see his football suffers in comparison to other sides . That said if you offered me entertaining flowing footy or trophies I’ll take trophies , it’s when the trophies don’t arrive that the choice becomes harder .
They haven't got a DOF but they apparently want to recruit one...he’s not everybody’s cup of tea but I like him. Saying that, United look like they’ve gone backwards. Poor signings, not sure if they are down to Mourinho or the DoF. Pogba is a talent but he’s got an attitude which means he often plays like the game doesn’t matter.
United need major change regardless of who’s in charge.

Counting the Community shield is funny as.
Because they are two of the three managers from the big 6 who get nothing but praise despite their modest achievements not really warranting a free pass. Mourinho - his record speaks for himself yet he’s labelled a football dinosaur despite winning the prem, league cup twice, and Europa league in the last 4 years. Wenger - 3 FA cups in 5 years yet was derided as an old tactically inept idiot. Conte - A premier league and FA cup, practically hounded out of Chelsea. Meanwhile Klopp - won nothing in England, hailed as potentially the best manager in the world, has invented pressing, is showing the way to the likes of Mourinho etc with progressive football. Pochettino the same. It’s utterly embarassing. The pair of them have won nowt and have been bested multiple times by so called has beens like Mourinho Wenger Pellegrini Conte etc. Klopp has his backside handed to him by Unai Emery’s Seville and Zidane’s Madrid and even by Pellegrini’s City. His CV shows him for what he is, a very good manager but one who is not at the top level of the game. Mourinho is at the top level and I’d put my money on him finishing ahead of Klopp again this year and winning something.
Think your clouding the issue with Everton expectations and Man Utd expectation. You think he’s done ok but why do the majority of Utd fans want him gone, if he’s achieved the aim of winning trophies and qualifying for the Champions League. Utd fans want more than a Europa League, a League Cup and qualifying for the Champs League. They’re not Liverpool. Yet.
The media hounded out Conte? Pretty sure it was a combination of him and the board having issues and he and the players having issues. Or is it the media who sent a text to Diego Costa essentially telling him to F off? Pretty sure that the media said he was harshly treated but everyone knows Chelsea are a basket case of a club. Changing managers who’ve won trophies- It’s what they’ve done for the entirety of the Abramovic era.
The media hounded out Wenger? Have you ever seen Arsenal fan TV? Rightly or wrongly their fans wanted him gone for years- two seasons in a row failing to get them in the top 4 sealed his fate. It was obvious he was falling behind the likes of Spurs and the RS and wasn’t able to compete anymore.
Like I said, some people just seem really overly irritated by some supposed media bias towards Klopp and Poch. And your examples of Wenger and Conte just don’t stack up for me. But overall I just don’t care. I’m judging Mourinho by his own high standards and by my own opinions. He doesn’t need me or you to defend him from some supposed media campaign against him.
Let’s look at last night- Mourinho has been bemoaning a lack of transfer activity. Spurs haven’t signed one player all summer. Did it matter? Should Mourinho be losing back to back games in the manner he has because of some recruitment issues this summer? It’s laughable that people here are using that as an excuse for him. HE SIGNED LINDELOF. He signed Lukaku, Sanchez, Pogba, Matic, Bailly. Let’s not even get started on the enigma that is Fred. There’s no excuses and no sympathy. And again I ask when was the last time he made a successful signing or developed or improved a young player or player he signed?
Don’t get me wrong, Mourinho from Porto to inter Milan is one of the greatest managers in the history of the game. But since then his track record and more so his behaviour have been incredibly sketchy. His last title with Chelsea was a great achievement as all titles are but honestly people keep throwing the Europa league with united out there. Man united are one of the two biggest clubs in world football. They beat Rostov, Anderlecht and Celts Vigo (sometimes unconvincingly) on the way to beating Ajax in the final. Is that really a special achievement? United SHOULD have always been winning that tournament.

Fan sentiment is incredibly swayed by the media which is why bosses get so annoyed about it. The English media in particular is known to be particular stirrers of the pot for their own benefits. Again you say that Wenger couldn’t compete anymore, I give you 3 FA cups in 5 years. If it’s so easy to do why haven’t Klopp or Pochettino competed for one? The examples I gave do stack up. The big 6 all have comparable resources and the same ambitions. 3 of these managers are lauded to great extent by the media, 3 of them get huge criticism as soon as they lose a game. I have no issue with the praise Guardiola gets as he deserves it, if people want to write that he is redefining the game then go ahead he has the tin pots to prove it. But Klopp and Pochettino? They haven’t won a bean so how are they showing anyone the way? They’ve both achieved some good things with Liverpool and Spurs but frankly Moyes arguably did comparatively better with Everton. Taking a relegation threatened side into the top 4 on a negative net spend is arguably a greater achievement than spending loads of money and taking an already good team from 6th to 4th and to a few finals. The media indulgence of Poch and Klopp has been far too over the top and both should be getting their fair share of criticism for under performance in cup competitions and the league.
You are right when you say that Mourinho wont care though. He won’t be fired by United and will probably end up with more silverware than the FIFA fanboys combined this season.
