£8m is'nt actually that bad, considering what other players move for, the only problem is, we dont have a pot to p!ss in, so it may as well be £80m. It would be nice if we could do some sort of deal where we give them £1m upfront, then give them £1.4m a year for the next 5 years

That would be our transfer budget spent for the next 5 years FFS.

How didn't beckford work out?.. we got him on a free, he scored 10 goals for us in his first season, and always looked a threat when he came on, just because he got sold doesnt mean he didnt / couldnt make it. Moyes and him had a falling out and he was sold, thats that really.

Yeah, he had clear flaws but he scored every kind of goal and looked quite good with a strike partner. He had a 1 in 4 ratio which isn't awful for the step up he had to take, but when you consider that most of those games he came on as a sub or was subbed off, his minute to goal ratio would have been very respectable.

I think Beckford was never going to PL quality, his conversion rate just wasn't there, and he was too lightweight. Vic certainly doesn't have that problem but unlike Jela i've rarely seen Vic run his socks off, track back and really work the CB's. Although i still remember his performance away at scumfield in the 10/11 season, prob the best i've seen him play in blue.

38 apps 10 goals. Hardly terrible.

Connor Wickham went for £8m and his scoring record was pretty average, albeit in the championship and well, he's a few years younger.

I honestly don't think in today's climate £8m is so ludicrous for them to ask.

Interestingly both former Ipswich players - which is where I am from. Connor has great potential, but is not an out-an-out-goalscorer, played the old inside-left position most times I saw him play. He left far too early in his development. Always thought that he was hanging out for a move to the Red****e long-term, but in the end the money both and he the club were offered were too good.

Rhodes looked nothing like as promising as Connor - but suffered under one the management of Roy Keane like one or two others who have gone on to be half-decent at that level (e.g. Liam Trotter). I still don't see him as a consistent top-flight performer though - very good at what he does at the level he plays now for me.

Very interesting.

I'm not saying I'd pay £8m myself like, but I can see why they've put that kind of price tag on him.

It'll be interesting to see how he does in the championship if he doesn't move to the prem for the coming season.

why are we linked with anyone who costs anything... we dont have any cash! Pienaar is the target - Moyes said so. He spent 6 Mil in Jan and he will spend 5mil this window on Pienaar. Anyone else we get will be a loan or a free.
And the Beckham issue was probably more to do with turning up late for a game than his physical build. Moyes runs a tight ship, there is little room for artists, piss or otherwise... Drenthe , VDM, etc..
This is not the School of Soccer Art after all. Look at our heroes and legends since hte EPL started, grafters and grinders... and if Moyes thinks he can take a Barkley or an Osman even and turn them into that way of playing, that is success!
