Jordan Punchford

Terrible thread. All season everyone has moaned about a specific player being a problem. They've all been dropped at some point and been replaced by a player who hasn't taken their chance.

The problems are more rooted than one position. This guy is far from the problem.

Can't catch a ball, rarely if ever makes saves you wouldn't expect any other keeper to make, kicks a lot of shitty balls straight out of play (but with a stylish 'slice' element to them), and tonight I think plenty of other average keepers would've saved one or two of those goals that arsenal scored (especially that deflected one he totally flapped at)....

Most of you have been brainwashed by an English media that has, surprise surprise, massively overhyped a young English footballer. But I'm not buying it.

You can't keep saying a goalkeeper that lets in as many goals as he does is top quality, [Poor language removed] defending in front of him or not. He's supposed to be a key figure in organising the defence anyway!

As much as I don't really rate Robles either, I think he deserves a go in the next couple of games. I just can't bare to watch Punchford put us under completely unnecessary pressure again after punching a ball straight back to the opposition giving our defence little to no time to regroup when all he had to do was catch a simple foooking ball!!

Getting sick of this pickford is great myth.
Ok mate.

Could, maybe should have got a stronger hand to the deflection. No blame for any of the other goals.

Handling in general is excellent. What we are seeing lately is him coming for a lot of balls he shouldnt be and is having to attemp punches. He is having to do this because he cannot trust the defenders in front of him to do their job. He should be getting praised for trying to take control of the situation unlike his coward defenders who continue to be given a free ride by people like you, who find it easier to find some kid to scapegoat.

His distribution has been poor this season but any Sunderland fan, who have seen him a lot more than us will you thats probably his bigggest strength.

He is still very young for a keeper anf has years of learning and development ahead if him. Experts in the game have high expectations of him. We are very lucky to have him. His attitude and application,, given he is surrounded by a load of cowardly nobheads, is top drawer.

Hes been, without doubt, our best and most consistent player this season.

We need to extend Joel's contract quickly.
Pretty sure that he signed a 5 year contract when he came.

Not that it matters anyway.

Every pundit will no doubt be encouraging him to leave to further his career and cement his England place.

He did mate. And that 5 years is up in June. Gone quick hasnt it..

A lot of games Pickford has saved a lot of shots, and given us a chance, rather than a disaster.
Sadly, not what he did on Saturday at Arsenal.
He looked so confident a month ago. Now he has got the shakes. And it is difficult to see how to resolve that without getting a staable defence in front of him. He can't marshall the troops is they are running away from the ball, or afraid to tackle.
Sure Robles is hungry to play. He can't do much worse. Then give Pickford 2 weeks with the Under 23s, without the pressure, to find his mojo.

That, or see if prayer works....

We are all brainwashed. This guy gets praise from all the best coaches and keepers in the world, just won England's best u21 player and because you don't think his great we all have it wrong.

Without him we would be in a worse position than we are. His a young keeper, with an awful defence in front of him. We really as fans need to stop trying to destroy the youngsters at the club.

Barkley
Kenny
Davies
Pickford

Whos next in the firing line.... Its the seasoned pros you should be looking at.

Clearly not what we need between the sticks. This won’t be a popular opinion but I actually think HE is the main reason why our defence has been so poor. He couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery this lad. He’s AWFUL.

Get out ‘Picko’, you’re WAY overrated and quite frankly a midget for a goalkeeper. You took Sunderland down and you’re doing your bloody best to make sure WE do the same. I am NOT having you do that to my great club. GET out.

It's Monday lad give the WUMing a break.

Red here, and I was told he was the second coming of De Gea. But, most of your defensive problems come from him. Just as most of our defensive issues come from lack of leadership from our keeper.
You guys need a new keeper.

Well, guess what my little red mert, they don't.
