2025/26 Jordan Pickford

That was a leading question by Dixon (basically saying no big team wants him) but credit to the commentator who said Everton are a big team with a brand new stadium.

Later on Dixon was saying the opposition has been below par.........again attempting to take any credit away from Pickford. The fellah is a melt and how he is a co-commentator I don't know

I struggle to see where his persistence on this issue comes from. Dixon himself was probably the least gifted of that Arsenal team and his errors, and I can remember there were many, were redeemed by his famed defensive team mates. Whereby Pickford has been our stand out player for the past few seasons and has had to do all the heavy lifting on his own. Maybe Dixon is just purely jealous

Read this the other day, don't know if it's true or not.

'I think Dixon has a problem with Everton because of the Kevin McLeod thing.

I was there, saw it happen, he brought it on himself.

He has spoken about it since, McLeod gave an interview about it not long ago to the Echo I think.

For those who don't remember, in a game 20+ years ago, Dixon was kicking the [Poor language removed] out of Idan Tal all game and the ref didn't do anything about it despite Everton players and the crowd complaining all game.

Unsworth (edited to correct) told McLeod (coming on as a sub) to do Dixon. McLeod told Dixon as we was running on what he was going to do to him, and then went through him with a horror challenge soon after.

Dixon had to go off, and while it's a myth it ended his career, he was north of 30 and he was never the same after and played sporadically until he retired.

He has genuinely hated Everton ever since and that is now something Pickford gets.'

While Pickford is obviously better that Bobby safe hands Mimms
Southahall’s injury in 86 cost us the title. Maybe we still win in 85 and 87 with Pickford, but a world class keeper, effects the whole team and their mindset
It is a team game so no point comparing. Southall's injury may have lost a title but Pickford kept us up for around three seasons. I would go with Nev though above anyone I have ever witnessed.

Nev was at one point the very best goalie in the world. he was elite level, Pickers isn't at that level but if it weren't for Nev, i think he'd go down as Evertons best ever keeper.

It's not a stretch when people say he kept us up for the past few years, huge weight on his shoulders and he stepped up, it's glory but not the type that of glory that gets the headlines.

I love him and it really does become tiresome that the wider footballing world can't just say, he's clearly Ebglands #1, he never claims to be the worlds best, he just does his job well enough to be to be hated for it....which is bizarre.

If his name was Jordao Picinho from Brazil he'd be lauded or if he signed for City etc he'd suddenly be great. I hate football fans who can't see anything outside of their own cult club and worse, the media who with one narative and one dodgy article can become fact. m0ngs

An interesting vignette - who’s the sauce, an ex-player or A.N. Random?

To be fair he was right about the opposition

….its a fair point saying only Southall has been better. We’ve had some decent goalies and whilst I’m not a fan of ‘modern keepers’, this fella has won me over. He’s also got longevity, been very good over a long period of time.

I’ve seen lots from Gordon West onwards & wouldn’t argue against his standing in our top two ever. He must be close to having won most England caps whilst at Everton, good on him.
