I have never got the "shouldnt be getting beat at the near post" shouts.
On this one he came out to cut the angle and Buendia thumped it past him.
If it'd went to his left or through his legs nobody would've said a thing but because it went past his right it's a mistake?
Bollocks.
Just the usual slating mentality, dont want to see the good but can't wait to try and pick holes.

Yeah, it's one of those things people hear so repeat for themselves without understanding that its not as straight forward as it sounds.

It applies when the ball is at a tight angle close to the goal line and the keeper is within touching distance of his "near post", you can block off the whole goal, if you get beat there your positioning is wrong (a great example was Meslier last week).

But not every goal that goes in closer to the post that the keeper is closest to is a mistake, you can't cover the whole goal, if the shot is good enough there's nothing you can do.

Excuse the dodgy lines, i don't work in VAR :) but you can see Pickford is pretty much in the centre of this triangle as he should be, his right foot covering the near post, his left arm covering the near. But there are gaps as to be expected and Buendia's hard shot found one. If Pickford was covering the near post completly he's be about 18 inches to the left and Buendia would have just rolled it into the goal to the right far easier.

Coady was destroyed and was poor. But the defence were 3vs3. More likely to happen when pushing forward late in a game but players should be busting a gut to get back still. Coleman jogged back holding his arms out, while the midfield were also jogging back (gueye was trying hardest out the 3 of them) but it was as if they had just resigned themselves to their fate of conceding.

No blame on Pickford here. Let down again by those in front.

Exactly this, had the defence been doing their job, one would have come closer to Pickford a reduce the opportunity on the far corner, allowing Pickford to edge over that little bit to remove the near post as an option. As it happens, he is left to cover more space than he reasonably can and it was a great strike by Buendia

He’s the least of our problems, and is being left exposed by the poor defending in front of him.

Coady has needed dropping for a while now, and the second goal yesterday summed him up - hes making Tyrone bloody mings look decent.

There was an incredible save from Pickford that kept us in the game yesterday, that’s what you can get from him on occasion- exceptional. Incredible saves.

I just wish the rest of his game wasn’t so hit and miss - his kicking is all over the place.

Had very little to do in the first half...so frustrating how efficient is arsenal vs us. No goalkeeper would have saved any of the goals.
