If you asked me 3 days ago, Bassong would have been THE perfect like for like cover for Lescott.

Now, Gary Cahill/Hangeland as the replacement for Lescott. Cover for left back is a tricky one, but I wouldn't hesitate to take Michael Ball. People say he's gone ****, he's a decent left back, better than Valente for sure.

There's £12million and 2 players.

£8million to spend on strenghtening the squad, + an already maybe £6million we have?

Stick a bid in for Witsel. Game over. We've won the League.

Am not so sure. If we sold him for the £20/22m to a Premiership rival - would we be able to improve?

We would need another quality centre back, left back cover and enough left over to bring in someone else who would significantly improve the side, so Defour/Moutinho calibre, otherwise it isn't worth it is it? - why unsettle a side and assist a Premiership rival unless your sure you could improve the side?

Am not sure we could improve with anything less than £30m.

I initially thought the same as you but if you think about it, Lescott is a young, English International centre back. It would be ridiculous to accept a lower £20m bid, especially when you consider the climate at the moment. We have just seen two English defenders who have hardly kicked a ball going for £5m each, Walker with 2 games to his name in the Championship, Naughton with just a season of football under his belt.

Then consider the likes of Bassong - £8/10m for a player who has only played a season at the back for a team who were relegated. Delph, £8m...

The list is endless. I would be pig sick if we sold Lescott for anything under £25m.

Aye, but I'd be even more pig sick if Moyes carry's on this whole "he's not going" business, and sells him.

Neither Cahill or Hangeland will be for sale, mate.

The thing is, giving the difficulity we have in attracting players here, why should we swap a player we already have for the gamble that we can get a replacement?

What if we sell Lescott and then our lined up replacements decide they'd rather go to Spurs?

Especially since Lescott is the better player.

woah, woah, we said CB and LB equal to or better than lescott, those two aren't

Gary Cahill is a great defender, he'll be an England regular in no time.

As I've already said, I'd take a slightly weakened defence, and have a top top quality midfield.

Neither's Lescott mate, but hey ho here we are having this discussion.

Go by our example then, Lescotts not for sale, as a result Moyes won't even accept £30m, don't you think that theres a chance that Bolton/Fulham would be smart enough to hold out for big money knowing we've got £20m to spend from the Lescott sale, not rocket science

Did Wigan hold out for £80million for Valencia, when they knew he was Ronaldo's replacement?

Bolton wouldn't bat an eye lid at £8-£10million.

Lescott is for sale, everyone is, albeit at the right price.

You're looking at £12mill + for Hangeland for a kick off.

Arsenal are rumoured to be looking at £6mill for the white Titus Bramble in Senderos, so getting a replacement for Lescott this late is gonna cost at least £10mill, and that's being very shrewd.

United are a massive club and not Wigan's main rivals...and Wigan wouldnt hold out for stupid money, they made a good deal.

Citeh arent a massive club and are our rivals so why sell to them?

And Gary Cahill is rubbish. Rather have Senderos.

Considering he's Wigan's best player, and he'll shine at United, a lot more I would have expected him to go for.

Why? They could've got better players for less and Wigan would be £16mill less with a player that would've probably handed a transfer request to move to a bigger club..
