I was just wondering what everyone thought that our best back four would be?

I would go out on a limb and say that the back four we have now is brilliant. (1 goal conceded in 6 matches)
But how can you leave Yobo out now that he is fit again?

At the back Jagielka is a given, first name on team sheet.

At right back it's a choice between Neville or Hibbert. I would go for Hibbert as he is very solid there, does get forward well, his crossing is improving, and I think Neville can do a good job in midfield. Also Hibbert is a true blue, through and through.

Now, there is two places left for Yobo, Baines and Lescott.

Boo me if you want but I would leave out............Lescott

Hear me out though, I think that as a centre back Yobo is a slightly bit better. He is more experienced and has learnt well in his time in the premiership, whereas at centre back Lescott is where Yobo was three years ago.

I think (as a full back myself) that that is Joleon's better position. He is very well placed there, and is extremely good at getting forward, can play well on the sides, is a great crosser and tackler, and has made less mistakes there then at centre back (in fact I can't think of one when he played left back) He also scores goals from that position.

I only leave him out as I would like to see more of Baines because even though he's been here 18 months, I've hardly see him play at Goodison, and would like to see what he can do as he is apparantly playing really well in the last few games.

So i'm not really saying I think he should be left out as he is one of our most important players. More important than Baines but I think Baines needs a chance. If you know what I mean.

Please let me know if you disagree, and please let me know your oppinions.

I could pretty easily leave Joey out at the moment because its the first time this season our defence has looked at its most stable, i certainly wouldnt want to break that up.

It is a tough one really Matt.

As much as I like Yobo (his pace makes me feel at ease), at the moment I definitely wouldn't change it.

Our best back 4 is

RB Hibbert/Neville
CB Yobo/Lescott/Jagielka
LB Baines/Lescott/Valente

In other words, we dont have a BEST imo. I think they all bring certain things to the table and they all play well as a unit. I agree with what Moyes is doing, you get injured or suspended you lose your place. Then you must wait.

Not exactly true, Baines only signed last summer, was in form for the team before suffering a nasty injury against Derby away from home, hes come back into the side of late and has looked very solid.

I like that way of thinking.

Except I can't recall the last game Nuno played for us, but he was good in his day. Now he seem's to have lost his pace.

At the moment I'd keep Baines in. He's providing good balance, his performances have been good and we look a solid unit at the moment. There's no point in changing a successful system.

If he goes through a bad patch or the balance isn't right at the back Yobo can come back in and give us a different option.

Id keep it the way it is, our attacking play down the left flank has improved since Baines came in.

Yobo will get his chance as soon as Lescott gets his 5th yellow card.
