I reckon he'll get that sentence reduced on appeal, he broke the rules on betting but there's no suggestion that he was taking a bung to throw games etc, so it needs to be kept in context.

He'd probably wish he never went to jail and stuff but in terms of ability, the career he's had is about right.

18 months does seem very harsh, however he states that he had no influence over the outcome of any of the bets apart from when backing his own team to win. There are a thousand football matches he can bet on without having to bet on the team he plays for, he must have known he would be crucified if that ever came to light. Plus the very first bet he lists, laying Samaras, his team mate, as first goalscorer (in other words he doesn't want samaras to score first), I don't know how he can argue he couldnt influence the outcome of this, not passing to him when maybe he should is all it would take. The fact that its a £5 bet isn't the point either although it makes you wonder what a multi millionaire is doing trying to double a fiver on a teammate not to score!

Sadly the Football League will always have the edge over the FA when it comes to that score - just look at what they did to Wrexham.

So it's all his families fault, that they had a flutter when he was a kid and the fact that he's now loaded and got loads of spare time on his hands, that he just doesn't know what else to do with his time, other than sit at home and bet.
