Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Moyes warns against Jo hopes

Everton manager David Moyes has told fans not to have unrealistic expectations about on-loan striker Jo.
The Brazilian moved from CSKA Moscow to Manchester City in the summer of 2008 but struggled to make an impact at Eastlands and made a temporary switch to Merseyside at the end of the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old scored two goals on his Everton debut against Bolton but Moyes says he still has a long way to go to become a top Premier League striker.
"I don't want everyone to expect too much from him because he found it difficult at Manchester City for six months of the season," the Scottish manager said.
"It is certainly not going to turn and everything be great for him here, even if it looked that way in his last game.
"In the first few days he came here I could see why he wouldn't be pushing for a starting place anywhere. But I think the longer I have gone on I have started to see why he is a player with such a value.
"We would have liked to have taken it steady. A lot has been said about him after his two goals so I hope he can do it again.
"You would hope he would be champing at the bit - he scored two goals and then had to sit out the next game because he is cup-tied.
"Hopefully we will see that much more from now until the end of the season."
The Goodison Park boss has also backed current captain Phil Neville to have a successful career as a manager.
Moyes says the former Manchester United player has set an example for Everton's promising youngsters to follow.
"I know top players like Phil sometimes don't make managers, but he has all the attributes to go on and become a top coach," he told the Daily Mail.
"I don't think it is possible to over-estimate the influence he has on our recent run, or on our squad overall.
"What he does often goes unnoticed but he has played a major part in what we've achieved because he shows the other players what is required.
"He has been at a club who have won things, so he knows what it takes. He is professional in everything he does and he makes sure we all do it the right way."

He had probably been a bit pissed off with his lot at City and stopped caring, just a little wake up call from Moyes, shape up or ship out. Its best to try and get the best out of him now, see how he reacts, then he could judge if hes an Everton player.

Go on Davey lid, give em hell.

I think he put it down to confidence more than anything, Jo was lacking confidence and didn't look like the 20 million man Moyes had scouted in the summer.

Are we reading the same peice?

I did raise an eyebrow when I read that - presume its a bit of Moyes man management coming out to let Jo know he's thinking about him, and that he needs to keep the performances up

It'll be interesting to see what he's like away from home, hopefully he's not like Robinho. Great at home but hides when the going gets tough away from home.

He's got something to prove though so hopefully he delivers.

It was because he was gutted. His agent told him he was joining Everton and he ended up at City. Very Robinho esque.

He is happy now as he is at Everton where his idol Gazdalf watches football.

I know this, my mates sisters dog's brothers pet hamster told me.

My cat knows him. Hes a good source.

phil neville, future everton manager?

Nah, Moyes is training Stubbs up for that.

Just imagine. The brains and attention to detail of moyes, combined with the footballing brain and passion of Stubbs. Thems is what dreams are made of.

Well it seems plausible in my colourful fluffy world.

I hope to god Stubbs will never manage us.

Can you imagine a squad of yard dogs who smash the ball 40 yards out of play when they get the ball?
