As an Everton-Irish fan, I’d put our World Cup play-off against Denmark ahead of Evertons bore dead rubber games against Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Brighton...

As I said already, if he can get game time in the next three club fixtures, then he’ll surely be fit to play some part in Ireland’s two game - probably only the first leg as the suspended, and probably superior David Meyler will come back from suspension for the second-leg.

Also, 26 county duty? Weak and weird dig.

Most English people and players might rate club over country, but I can assure you that the majority of Irish players, including those born in the UK care more about playing at a World Cup finals, than they do about milling about in Stoke in the League Cup on a Tuesday night.

What do you consider fully fit to mean? I’d imagine that if he can start any of the next three games then that means his club manager considers him to be fully fit?

If anything, a game or two for Ireland may improve his fitness for Everton.

He's played more regularly for Ireland than Everton. Considering we pay his wages it's a poor do. I'd of flogged him a long time ago.

He has been injured too often to risk 180 minutes in 5 days. Especially if he isn't seen as ready to play 90 minutes inside 10 days for us.

As I mentioned earlier on, it’s unlikely James will play in both games, if any.

He’s far more likely to start the away game - I can’t see him starting the second leg regardless of the result in the first leg.

And if you are going to be so precious about the 26 County nomenclature......wind yer neck in.

That is a more accurate description than lazily saying “Ireland” when the team represents not the island of Ireland but the twenty six counties of the “Republic of” Ireland.

There is a whole nother Ireland in the north eastern part of the island, hey boy :pint2:

Oh and BTW......I will be rooting for the boys in green in that tie.

O'Neil doesn't care about McCarthys long term or even short term health. He's risked him and had him injured many a time. He's a cog to O'Neil nothing more. If he's half fit he'll play.
 
Wasn't It McCarthy who Everton were furious about being in the Irish squad, let alone team because of injury problems, O'Neil picked him to start and he didn't even complete the pre-game warm up before aggravating his injury and hasn't played for Everton since, apart from Wednesday.
