Yeah his appearance has definitely lifted the mood.

Surprised that it's being said that McCarthy will be irrespective of Fellaini & Fernando the replacement - so spending probably nearly £30m the pair if they go through.

I think that's brinksmanship from Everton rather than a serious prospect. I assume we're getting close to £28m for Fellaini and McCarthy/Fernando is a like-for-like swap in terms of money.

Maybe, but even so, if you'd have said this morning that we'd buy 2x £14/15m CM players today, I'd have said you were on crack.

He's a funny one to pigeon hole. I'd still say more DM than ACM.

He's a "water carrier" - a busy body who knows how to tackle and put his foot on the ball and play too.

He's a decent little player but the fee is extravagant because if he stays at the level he's at now, he isn't worth the cash. We'd be hoping beyond hope that he blossoms substantially.

McCarthy can open up defences. And he will only get better. Can defo see him and Fernando in the same team. *crosses fingers*

Or we stagger the payments slightly so we can put a bit of money down on them now and pay if off over the year?

Definitely a fair description, you'd think he was Platini the way some people go on. I should also add, he has not looked out of place in the championship so far this season.

However, he is 22, and has shown signs of potential, that he may eventually get to be of a level approaching a Fellaini, albeit a different type of player. But he is not a player who worth anything approaching 10 million. He's not in the same calibre as an Eriksen for example.
