Spurs held out for an outrageous fee, more than double Bale's worth IMHO. Why shouldn't we hold out for a bit more for Felli? Your only argument so far appears to be the fact that there's only one team in for Fellaini; however, there was only one team in for Bale so how does that work?

It's a completely different situation because Real are a team who are well known for spending vast sums on the most talented and marketable players. Levy knew he could get a huge fee because Real were prepared to pay it.

Lets just look at McCarthy in a longer term view.

I know the £14M is a bit too much, but once again were in the last day and Whelan is gonna have the ar5e out of us. All in all, we paid too much for fellaini.

Anyway, back to McCarthy. Hes 22. Not 23 till november. Whether you like him or not, he is a prem player, hes not really a gamble, you know exactly what your gonna get.

Is he gonna get worse? Is playing in a far superior group of players going to be negative on his development? Not for me. So given his age and the fact he still has 2/3 years to develop i just dont see us losing out on him longterm, if anything he could get better and be worth more.

Fellaini was no world beater when he was 22. In fact he was probably the single biggest source of arguments between blues about if he was total 5hit or total genius.

Just think its far to easy to rattle of players who have gone for a similar fee to a top club. Fact is...they probably wouldnt have signed for us anyway.

We get the players in the manager wants, who want to play for us. We let the ones go that dont want to be here. Thats football, we have lost better players than fellaini and Baines and been ok.

I dont agree with keeping players either who dont want to be here just because its world cup year. When the chips are down and the players need to dig in and fight...IMO you need players dedicated to the cause.

Pretty much what I said about McCarthy- hes not going to go backwards with better players around him.

Fellainis buy out was £23.5M...when that expired we should have been looking for £25M

Now its different for 2 reasons.

1 - its TDD and Man U are desperate.
2 - Man U got beat by Liverpool and looked average at best - and again...desperate.

Forget all this Moyes 'we will go with what weve got quite happily' - will he nothing.

We need to be bending Man United over, pulling their pants down and dry bumming them for every penny we can. Forget how much he is or isnt worth. Given the circumstances we should be getting £30M +

The principle is exactly the same, at every level in the entire football pyramid. The only difference is the size of the fees involved, but the principle of the owning club maximising the fee returned on their player, due to the timing, desperation of the other club etc etc, is what he's talking about & he's spot on, you've just side tracked the argument.
