Reports starting to surface that Everton and Wigan have agreed a fee for McCarthy (Daily Mail, ITV etc)

That is correct, one of the local newspaper journalists who covers Wigan games is reporting that a fee of 12.5 million has been agreed but the 2 clubs are miles away on payment terms, he is saying that Whelan has said "10 cash up front and the rest staged" and Everton have offered 5 mill and instalments, knowing Whelan that is how he deals and that is what delayed Martinez leaving to go to you.

1 dud. After selling 1 defender (Lescott) .

We're selling a major, key player (Fellaini) and blowing the money on someone who will pass the ball left and right.

It's more about making use of the windfall.

Proper championship manager you lad.

I bet you've already spent the money in your head on European wonder kids.

Nobody's getting any sleep for the next 18-24 hours then because we all know 'how Everton work' and paying a large amount of money up front isn't it.

I understand that but in the role Martinez (and Fellaini) wants him to play he's not that effective. As a defensive midfielder he doesn't track runners and can't really tackle. In a way he has become similar to Cahill in that he isn't that good in centre mid but further forward he's a nuisance. This begins to affect the way we play though. I'd sooner have a player there that's only job is to break play up and move it on quickly. If we cando this and spend another 12m on an attacking player il be happy.

My main concern all summer was keeping Baines and fingers crossed it looks like that will happen.

But that's where I disagree. I fall into the Fellaini as a defensive midfielder camp. And most stats will probably prove how good he actually is.

As for Baines... What's the point in keeping him if we can't score?

I think Wigan are bluffing and we should make a final offer that is on our terms.
Whelan is playing hard-ball but will let him leave like he let Martinez leave.

Yes he did, with the cash compensation paid up front despite you penniless urchins wanting it to be paid on the never, never.

I really hope Everton don't attempt to go into a "hard ball" battle with Whelan ------------because every man an his dog knows who will come out on top, and it would make you look a bigger financial laughing stock than you already are.
