Impossible because they played in two different positions as you well know

Is it not best to compare him to someone who plays the same role, Carrick is quite good isn't he?

So can we spend 10m on Carrick instead then?

Ok, you've got me, Carrick is quite good, lets sign him.

What??

We would be replacing Fellaini with McCarthy. Fairly agreed upon.

We are struggling for creativity and goals. So, let's sell a lad who gets us goals for a lad who gets virtually no goals and creates one chance every 94 minutes.

Hey, why bother? We've already got Leon Osman!

So your now suggesting we should replace Fellaini with a centre forward and not a midfielder?

He'll be a "good" signing. The problem is we need a "great" signing to replace Fellaini.

If McCarthy was coming in to oust Osman from the side for around £8m (which is the more logical like-for-like replacement), nobody would be complaining. It's the thought of him coming in for a daft fee to replace a truly gifted unique footballer which is upsetting.

What would people say if McCarthy is brought in with Barry, and Osman is sold? Just hypothetically.

This is without any other outgoings.

I'd be delighted.

If its Fellaini out and McCarthy in for 10m+, I ll spend the season laughing at Davek trying to defend it.

A bit like Barry Ferguson's 9m mega move.

Don't tell lies Davek...

You're right. And the real 7.5M for Barry Ferguson does put a different complexion on that bid by Moyes. Bazza was well worth it...as Blackburn found out.

Now hang on Dave.

You told us it was 8m for Beattie.

Then you said 9m for Big Bad Barry.

Seems like you are making up an awful lot. Is your argument on very dodgy ground, so you've been forced to tell some porkies? That's all a bit.... Kenwright....

Our strikers are going to get about 12 goals between them this season and now we are selling last seasons top scorer and replacing him with a bang average centre mid. We need goals, not someone who isn't creative, isn't a ballwinner, and isn't a goalscorer.

I disagree - the gaping hole in our side, even without Fellaini in it, is up front.

Jelavic has 1 in 25 - and even that was a deflection - and Kone has form for being even worse. We need someone to score goals. Spending a huge amount of money on a midfielder is daft, especially if Fellaini doesnt go.

hahahahaha.

Perpetual motion.

9m Barry Ferguson.

It means he's on the move all the time. Which he is.

I noticed above you said you'd be happy with McCarthy if it wasn't a straight 'swap' for fellaini.

Can you tell us, then, what his qualities are that you'd see him bringing to us?

Which is why, ideally we should bring another midfielder in, more creative than what we've got. McCarthy is a good player but having the burden of being Fellaini's replacement would be too much I think.

Reports starting to surface that Everton and Wigan have agreed a fee for McCarthy (Daily Mail, ITV etc)

Making up is a bit strong, the figures I recollected were slightly wide of the mark and the overall point was still sustained with their actual cost/value. No harm done there I feel.
