With his stamina and energy this lad warrants a more forward box to box role. He is the teams saviour with his defensive covering skills i know but i believe he could become our missing attacking option.

When runs with the ball he looks so impressive only to pass it to someone lese to [Poor language removed] it up.

Let the lad loose as an attacking option he would be immense.

Liking this idea.

Look at the Man Utd side with Butt, Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs and even players being bought in such as Veron.

Each player was given a specific role and position. Same with the Arsenal sides under Wenger with Overmars, Pires, Vieira, Ljungberg and Petit.

If you look at our midfield there are 4 core players:

Besic -Central
McCarthy - Central
Barkley - Attacking
Mirallas - Wide

Martinez wants to play with 2 central, one attacking and 2 wide. logically one of the two central players (Besic/McCarthy) needs to be box to box while the other sits -- either of them could play this role.

The problem really is that there is no wide threat apart from Mirallas + no quality depth and also players dont know their roles as thsy seem to change on a game by game basis.

I'd like to see him a bit further forward in a midfield diamond but Martinez has made it clear he will not change the formation and way we play. So he is adamant on the 4-2-3-1 - therefore McCarthy and Besic will be holding and one of Naismith and Barkley in the attacking role.

Wasn't really a 4-2-3-1 against Newcastle, so I think anything is possible.

I know but it didn't work either and I'm going on Martinez's comments form yesterday's press conference.

I really hope you're right because I think we're too predictable in that formation now, and would be much more effective in a 4-4-2 midfield diamond.

If we had Barry circa last year to sit and mop up then I'd say give it a go as McCarthy certainly has the energy and power to play box to box. However, I wouldn't trust us if we got dispossessed high up the pitch to be able to win back the ball without him. Besic is still learning his role and the English game, he looked shocking in his first couple of matches but is looking like a shrewd signing now, although young players form will usually dip

Regardless of where he plays, I would just be happy to have him on the pitch and lasting 90 minutes. The kids obviously got serious problems and I ain't surprised with the amount of top flight games he's already played.
