I doubt this will come off but stranger things have happened at Everton. If we did sign him though it's a relatively low risk high reward signing since he'll either stay with us and be our keeper for 15 years or he'll do well for us for a few years then a bigger team will come in and break the bank for him, win-win in my opinion.

Not gonna lie, I'd be made up with this, think we need a replacement for Howard! Neither him or mucha fill me with that much confidence anymore and I honestly think we could push on with him!

Annoying thing is that I thought Ruddy looked a far better keeper than Butland when they each had their 45 minute cameo for England last week. Guess that Ruddy wouldn't be as good if he'd have stayed on our bench though. Same fear if we get Butland, can't see Moyes dropping Howard, so he will need first team football to keep developing, and it is a large chunk of our budget to spend on someone who's not gonna come straight in and make an impact however good he might become in a year or so.

I think Howard will be our goalie for at least 3-4 years unless he gets a serious injury. If we sign Buckland he will come to Goodison Park, hold up a t-shirt, and then he is placed on the first buss away to the first championship club that bothers to pick up the phone and call us. He won't even have time to unpack before he is sent out.

Butland is at least a 15 year investment, if he is cheap now then its a good deal.

Ruddy is 25 and Butland is 19. Even if Howard is 40 when he retires Butland will still only be 26. I agree about it being a lot of money for someone who might not see the first team for a number of years, but maybe we're interested in him as an investment?

I can see him dropping Howard. Thought for a long time we could do better. Howard isn't dreadful but lots of worse teams have better goalies (swansea, wigan, QPR, Newcastle, Liverpool etc).

Odd that our PR people and their people are coming out with near enough word for word dismissals and that SSN, The Guardian and ESPN are all reporting it as fact rather than rumour.
