Is there implied criticism ?

Moyes did well to leave behind a disciplined spine for the club, but God yes, bring on some dynamic football. If Drenthe wasn't a nutter, I would have been peeing myself watching Mirallas and Drenthe work the flanks.

I expect, like most of us, he is looking forwards not backwards with regards Everton.
These are more likely imo to be comments about the future, not the past. About his team and what he hopes from them, rather than his predecesors team and what he thought of them.

I would hope so anyway, would be pretty undignified else. I'll certainly give him the benefit of the doubt anyway.

I think he's wise to position this coming season as a test of whether he can impose a different (more possession based) style on this squad as much as whether he can emulate Moyes' relatively high league place finishes.

I know that's exactly what Brent did over at Libpoolfootbballclub, but it's not, essentially, wrong (obviously there was less excuse for Brentan given the moolah he had at his disposal not to slip too far down the table).

think it would be only human to have a bit to say in response to the non stop media stuff about how Moyes alone was keeping us competitive and hard to do it without some level of statement that things weren't perfect under Moyes. Just I think laying out his own qualities and unfortunately there is not really a way of doing that without some element of implied criticism.

We played some attractive stuff last season, I think a blend of Moyes' territorial style and Martinez's quick attacking style would be perfect!

Not at all, I don't think Martinez is like that. He was simply laying out his style and hoping his new players can adapt to it given they have been used to playing a different style before. It's a straightforward statement and an obvious hope/worry in the mind of a new manager. He has acknowledged many times Moyes' contribution to the club.

We played the best football in at least 10 years at times last season though?

Yes, I would agree with that. But as also said above, we did have a tendency to slip back into a less sophisticated style.
