Interesting article in the guardian today, reporting that Sky Sports subscription numbers are falling and attracting new business if falling.

What is that likely to mean for the PL, we have seen almost 30 years of inflation in transfer fees and wages, of the back of bumper tv deals. If the market in now over fished and saturated and business falling what will that mean in the next round of a tv deal and have we finally reached the apex of Tv money for PL clubs?

Be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I'd argue it is due to the massive increase of illegal / grey area streaming over the last couple of years.

Once they get them shut down the subs will go back up

They are restructuring their sports channels next season so if you only want footy you can pay less and just get their two 'new' football channels aren't they?

Honestly mate this sort of news comes as more of a relief rather than a worry.

As long as there is a team called Everton who play in Blue in Liverpool, they're my team.

Got some time.

Chances are exclusive rights will die, and the league will form their own network/web service where they can mine our pockets directly. Rights will be portioned by multiple other services, each paying less than Sky as a whole, but making up a similar, or even larger pot.

Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/PLTv/Sky/etc. All paying less for less exclusivity.

Or, they'll be stupid and hang on to a dying business model and get passed by the Bundesliga, or La Liga, or some other league.

The whole premise of Sky broadcasting football was to keep cost of attendance down when all seater stadiums came into effect, but since 1989 prices have risen by around 700%,the cash cow will eventually run dry and I think teams will set up their own web based channels which will just line the pockets of the big teams even more

Facebook are looking at buying the rights to a number of major sporting events around the world for live streaming. The premier league is on the list they are looking at. Satellite TV as we know it is dead. Sky could have moved with the times but like the major record companies did with Napster, they buried their heads and chose to try and sue individuals rather than engage with streaming platforms.

Good riddance to Sky, they've ruined football for long enough. Hopefully we'll get back to the days where Footballers are paid reasonable amounts again.
