Is our style backfiring?

Can Martinez fix our defence to allow his style to be a success?

Yes if we start scoring more goals than the other sides - RM is two players away from top top team - A Goalkeeper- and another scoring forward!
Do you not think another winger is needed (unless Mirallas regains motivation/form)? I would argue another winger at least and maybe cm (unless Cleverley can get back to his 2011 Community Shield form).

Playing football is all about doing it in style. We have that in spades. I'd prefer the three points with it, but I'd rather see an Everton team playing fantastic flowing one touch football and draw than win with a scabby performance.

Martinez must persevere and finish off the fight he took up against anti-football at this club two and a half years ago. It's his historic task to drag us into the 21st century and back to our traditions as an attractive football playing club. He might not have the success of Kendall or Catterick yet, but they'd have recognised and applauded what he's trying to achieve with Everton. He's their natural successor. A man cut from the same cloth.

Yes he can fix it. We've got Baines recovering from long term injury, Mori adapting to new pace, Stones still maturing and... Tim Howard.

We're very close to being a great team this year. 3 points off Europe, 6 off champions league - it's wide open.

Yes we have thrown away some sill points but 'if' we can start turning some of these draws into wins then we'll be right in the mix.

How many wingers do we need RM signs many plays with one - impressed with Tom Cleverley TBH we have not missed McCarthy we have looked more attacking - no we have a goalkeeping weakness - and we need another quality striker imo look the eras we won things the team built up we are not far away from great things we are in a false league position as our football is of a good brand , but you have to win games!

The problem is that teams now know that everton are an easy team to beat /draw with after everton score. Normally after going a goal down or two the losing team will wilt and lose a bit of motivation- but now when it happens against us the opposite happens they get inspired knowing we lose the lead so easily. Not a good place to be for us.

We've given away four points from winning positions this season. That hardly indicates we're an easy team to come back on. It just seems that way because both times were in the last few weeks. Our bigger problem is conceding the first goal and having to come from behind ourselves.

It really is as simple as sorting out the set pieces as far as I'm concerned. Most of the goals we've conceded seem to be from set pieces and we've scored 1. We're doing to hard bit we just need a coach who can help us get the basics right.

A better goal keeper would obviously help too.

So I brought this up in the Martinez thread, and was about to start my own thread when I realized this would be the right place to discuss it. I've brought it up before as well in the Howard thread.

Shots on target. Our defense allows the 3rd most shots on target in the league. While I agree that improving the keeper position is something we need to be looking to do, the bigger concern for me is how many shots he is being asked to deal with.

So far this season we've allowed 80 shots on target. That's 5 per game. It's the 3rd highest total in the league. Only Sunderland and Villa have allowed more. By comparison Liverpool for example have only allowed 45 shots on target. Mignolet has one of the worst save percentages in the league though...he's only saved 60% of the shots he's faced.

Why do we allow so many shots on target? What can we do to limit our opponents ability to get shots on target? That is the riddle that needs to be solved IMO.

Jesus bloody Christ

Over the last few years drawing games has been a major problem for us.
I'm pretty sure over the last 5 years we have drawn by far the most games in the prem (leave the toting up to someone else ).
1 goal can equal 2 extra points and if our player aren't slotting the 'easier' chances away we will always have problems.
