Ignoring the LD portion of this (that discussion going on in the LD thread, please try and keep that portion of the discussion there), wanted to post some interesting stats about Everton from this article (thanks NelsforBlues for pointing it out):

http://www.eplindex.com/9060/why-everton-must-buy-landon-donovan-stats.html

--he is one of only eight players who currently pass at over 80% in an Everton jersey. In contrast, all 27 of Manchester United’s outfield roster used this season pass above 80%. Everton have 18 players below that number.

--overall passing accuracy to 83% and crushes the team average of 65%

--Donovan is also Everton’s most accurate pass finder in the final third of the field. Only Royston Drenthe, Seamus Coleman and Magaye Gueye manage to pass at over 80% in the final third of the field.

--Leighton Baines – the Premier League’s most persistent crosser

So, our wingers (and Baines) are providing...but the rest of our midfield (minus Fellaini who just came back from injury) is not pulling their weight. I'm not sure the time period over which the team average was calculated though the inclusion of Seamus should be an indicator? So in particular, Neville, Heitinga (when he played midfield) and Cahill would be dragging our numbers down, no?

We've been going at our strikers (which we should), but our passing accuracy isn't exactly anything to write home about right now either.

Food for thought. I thought this was quite eye opening.

I really hope we can draft Landon to our full time outfield roster, he really wails on the others in terms of offensive play near the end zone.

It is true. Plus he has better work rate on D than most other wingers in the conference.

Ignoring that, rest of the stats a little scary no? Shows that we haven't been able to keep our attacking motion going forward.

It is. Where did you get these stats? I wouldn't imagine our passing completion rate is 65%. Do goal kicks, free kicks and corners count in this?

The most worrying thing is that of the 35% that went astray I reckon only about 5% are through balls or attempted defence splitting passes. The other 30% is a combination misplaced 10 yard balls and defensive hoofs.

No idea - it was quoted in another thread, and the source is the article that is linked. I'm also wondering what time period the team average was pulled for and which players are included. Wish there was more on the methodology of the piece.

Good point on the hoofballs - so maybe my statement about the midfield being to blame isn't quite accurate.
