No idea, B. Like those people who put kittens in microwaves etc., what's that all about? What drives folk to do stuff like that? (although drink and drugs are often a contributory factor tbf)

Lack of empathy is a key feature in narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders mate
 
Just read about the black lives matter protests stopping cars on the motorway getting to heathrow and other locations.

2 other news pieces show a black man stabbing people and another squirting acid into 4 lads faces...all unrelated.

I think there BLM protestors should be charged and any members charged with inciting racial hatred...Its mind blowing that they claim to be treated harshly yet are PHD graduates etc. Smacks of superiority to me.
 

There is a genuine awful problem of institutionalised racism against black people, much less so in the UK granted but especially in the US (what Public Enemy called 'fear of a black planet').

From the US is where the BLM movement started. Personally I think identity politics movements are counter-productive, but at least we have to recognise what is happening in the US.

Personality disorders are categorised as mental illness and you will find them in the DSM etc, but I'm not sure they should be. It's the person's personality, it's who they are, it's only categorised as a 'disorder' because society has decided that they don't like it. Homosexuality was once pathologised just because society didn't like it but this is no longer the case.

I think it's very dangerous to pathologise personality because it ends up with people excusing certain types of behaviour and the prospect of diminished responsibility starts being spoken about. If you go down this route, then we will eventually end up with people being excused of rape because they have 'rapist personality disorder' or NPD or whatever. It's not a pathology, it's just who you are! Being an anus does not make you mentally ill!

Not sure what a peaceful BLM protest has to do with two randomers causing harm. They aren't inciting racial hatred at all. They are not endorsing it in any way and cannot be held responsible for an unrelated knife attack because the perpetrator shared their skin colour.

Good post this. There are exceptions of course, but generally individuals have to take responsibility for their actions. If you murder people in cold blood you are an inexcusable danger to society and must be removed. Sometimes things can't be explained, as you say often it's just a case of someone being "an anus"...or even evil. That's why the studies in empathy are interesting, for they point to a direction where eventually we could explain such behaviour, but we shouldn't class those in the same boat as genuinely mentally-ill people (from whom the vast majority wouldn't dream of hurting anyone).

I should add, tho' I said it earlier in the thread too: that people with empathy deficits aren't generally bad people either, just those who combine that trait (not disorder) with the intent & act of then hurting people. I believe the personality trait of empathy outranks any mental disorder (a person may have been diagnosed with) in terms of how a person will treat others.

See also how Gary Speed ended his life and how Chris Benoit did it. Both similarly mentally-disturbed but only one had evil (or lack of empathy) in him.

Im sorry but a "peaceful" protest doesnt constitute lying down on a motorway....in the name of a bloke who happened to be black whose held up as some kind of martyr as if their race is "whiter than white" (couldnt resist the pun)and theres 2 major news stories out focusing on black people committing terrible violent crimes.

It should be "all lives matter" not a racially agressive viewpoint.

Erh theres a few points id agree with here and some less so
There are physical differences in the structure of the amygdala and prefrontal cortex in patients with these conditions - meaning that they dont really understand morality although they can explain what it is

Since sociopathy and the like are thus far proving incurable all you could really do is commit them for the rest of their lives if they do commit crimes

Sorry for sperging out on this haha, im a psych grad with a huge interest in neuroscience so i get well too excited when these subjects come up

Im not touching this issue with a bargepole except to say if you block the road while im trying to get through you'll find yourselves with rather more urgent concerns
