Millions of American tourists vist Ireland every year. Your man who owns a pub in Cork decides to support Everton and puts a shirt on the wall and a photo. American tourists who had Irish family comes over, spends a night in the pub, gets regaled with stories by the barman and when they get home they decide "I'll support Everton too" as it resonates with a positive memory. Within those two points lies the answer to tapping the potential of emerging World footy markets, like China, India and USA.

This is what EFC must do: buy clubs in those places and rebrand them as Everton- same kit, everything, and populate their squads with retired Everton players, upcoming youngsters and a bit of local talent. The oldies will enjoy the career extension and the youngsters will be better off within the Club, rather than out on loan in some dead-end League 1 outfit. The presence of a few big names will attract fans to those foreign clubs, and the quality of recently-retired Premier League players will ensure good results.

The cost of this investment should not worry Mr. Kenwright, because his money will not be needed. The capital to buy and fund the overseas clubs can come from EFC's wealthier shareholders. Their short-term incentive will be the extra exposure the Everton name gets then, eventually, when Blue Bill sells his Everton shares, or pegs it, the overseas clubs can become wholly-owned subsidiaries of EFC.

Much better. One of my client contacts is Irish. Went to college in the States. Mentioned Everton and our Irish contingent in passing. Wishes us well, but he grew up man u.

There is the issue.

Irish will have likely grown up with a PL side.

America has 300,000,000+ people, many of whom are entirely new to the sport and, thus, have no team or natural predilections. And while you only have one American player, you have THE American player. The one whose last World Cup performance while last in the minds of any Yank who tuned in. Generated hundreds of memes and millions of tweets on what he could save.

Virgin shores, mate. Tim Howard. A squad that is loaded and plays exciting football. Bit of an underdog, too.

Truly a shame EFC didn't play friendlies in the US this of all summers.

I think he's trying to say that Ireland's population is too small to be worth it. We have less people than London like, and they still have trials by combat in parts of the west.

On the face of it, "cracking Ireland" doesn't seem like much but one of the reasons Celtic, United and the RS are popular in America is because of the Irish American community taking its football lead from the Auld Sod, where those three teams are the most popular teams.

There ain't many Latinos or Yanks of European mainland extraction supporting them......or even WASPs come to that.

If we were big in Ireland it would have a knock on effect in the States, Canada and in the Antipodes.
